So i'm looking at a ticket from SFO to Bangkok with a one-week stay in Tokyo. United is the cheapest, Northwest the 2nd cheapest, and JAL #3. Northwest is definitely out; no way i'd pay even a dollar more to fly them. Question is: how good is JAL? Is it worth it to pay that extra 14%? If it were Singapore Air or Cathay Pacific, I'd go for it. Not too familiar with JAL though.

I wouldn't pay more to fly with them....found the flight attendants to be less than attentive...and the food was probably the worst i've ever had on a plane

We definitely have had different experiences. I have flown with them a few times and I really enjoy it. They have always been super nice and very attentive. I like most Japanese food, so I think the food is good. I usually try to fly JAL and Cathay Pacific everywhere, which works out well because they are oth usually two of the cheapest airlines.

I've flown JAL before.. but fairly indifferent. Didn't stand out one way or the other.

I've flown JAL and United, neither were much different in terms of service (though JAL did show the view from the plane from different vantage points on the main screen as we came into land) but I'd just go for the cheaper version.

Yeah, think I'll be going with United. Posted this question a couple other places and sounds like JAL is good but not worth the extra cost.

JAL is okay. I'd never heard it referred to as 'good' until I visited this site.

I have flown with them quite a few times, and while not bad, there's just nothing particularly memorable about it.

It's nowhere near the top of the list of airlines I have flown, but you could do a lot worse.

I wouldn't pay the extra - it's just a few hours on a plane. Save your money for something else.

With a baby...a resounding yes.
