In June of this past year, Round Face Theatre (a theatre troup of foreigners based in Busan) put on a production of a Dario Fo play ("Accidental Death of an Anarchist") that was quite a success.
For those of you who saw it, well...hold on to your paen-tea.
BABOPALOOZA is here to ridiculous your socks off! A night of movies, skits and music all written AND performed (sans 1 fine Korean woman) by foreigners. A satirical and strange look at life and work in Korea from the view point of us pale faced folk.
The show will START at 10:00pm on December 1st + 2nd (next Friday and Saturday). There will be (as best as I know) beer on sale. Tickets are 7,000W.
The location? Neo-Reun Small Theatre right on Gwangali beach road. It is at the end nearest Samick Beach Apartments UNDER the "Beach Town" bar.
The theatre (hopefully you clued in) is quite small and there are a limited number of seats for this show. You can PM me for ticket info if you like.
If you were in Busan and SAW "Anarchist"...PLEASE tell me what you thought of it... |

Discussion over at efl-law about the show...
Conflicting reports say it was both a good show and a racist disgrace topped off with drunken brawls.
Anyone go and have the scoop? |

I was in it. I will say this:
1) It would have been pretty difficult to make it through the WHOLE show without getting offended by something.
2) The first night was a standing "O"...the second night:...uhm...not so much.
3) I saw a few people leave but for the most part, it seemed like there was a LOT of laughter coming from the crowd.
4) I think the claims of "racism", though not COMPLETELY unfounded, are a tad reactionary. Go to the pusanweb page...the thread called Babopallooza and read on p4 about post show reaction.
And as for the "drunken brawls".... It was one fight between two audience members over, (I am unclear which;) a "seat" issue, or a "girlfriend" issue). In truth, we didn't hear about any kind of fight at all. I only read about it on efl this morning. Strangey.
Lastly I don't think it's fair to say that the show, it's writers or performers should be held accountable for the few yahoos who were there proving themselves to be jackasses (and yes, there were a few...on both nights). We were cursing out the jerks from backstage too.
We wanted this performance to be slightly more informal than the previous Dario Fo piece. The drawback to that is that clowns will yell, catcall, and bo11locks up the show for people around them.
For those who were offended, I apologize. For those who enjoyed it, thanks. |
