Visa not required for a max. stay of 30 days, provided coming for touristic purposes. Extension up to 10 days is
possible. Fee THB 500.- (1 photo required). Note: there is a max. limit of a total of 90 days within any 6 month period.

Valid for Canadians and Americans.

You can APPLY for a 90 day visa from a consulate BEFORE entry to Thailand.

Can you not still pop into a neighbouring country for a day or 2 and then return with a brand new 30 day-er?

My understanding is that there are many people who are living and working in Thailand and all they have is the 30 day visa. So at the end of each month they would take a day trip and get there visa updated. Now they can oly do that 3 times and after the third time, they will be be barred from entering for another 90 days.

Needless tyo say, many illegals who are working there will now have it a bit more difficulties in staying in Thailand.

It will be interesting to see what impact this has on Malaysia, which still has the 90 day tourist entry.

Right. But after 3 months, you can go down to Penang and get a 3 month visa and come back to Thailand -- no problems.

A lot of people who are working in LOS are really REALLY pissed off about this. It shows a lot of anti-foreigner sentiment.
