OK, so I've followed the lead of some you here by switching over to Utorrent, and am basically very happy. It does seem to take up a lot less RAM than the BitTorrent client, and presents a meaner, cleaner image to boot.
Unfortunately, though, I'm getting a lot of "error" messages. A torrent will stop downloading, with the pop-up message reading that "another process is in use," or something like that.
The funny thing is that re-starting the offending download never seems to be a problem. I just click "Start" and it starts back up again. So why isn't such a simple process automated? Why does Utorrent require my manual intervention each time?
Anyone else having this problem? Is it just normal? If not, can it be fixed?

| Ironically, I have the same problem with BitTorrent. |

uTorrent is unmistakably downloading much, much faster, though.
I'd been trying to get _Je Vous Salue Marie_ for weeks through BitTorrent. It just finally kicked in yesterday, but at a slow-as-molasses rate. (The current ETA is 23 days.)
So about an hour ago I decided, by way of experiment, to get the same file through uTorrent.
Current ETA on uTorrent: 21 hours, 6 minutes. While BitTorrent remains stuck at 23 days!
uTorrent plus eMule seem to be best these days for getting what you want in a relatively quick and simple way. I'm quite happy, for now anyway, with what the two combined are doing for me. |

I seem to remember getting this error quite a long time ago. I think the cause is that when Windows caches the thumbnail of the movie that you are downloading, this conflicts with uTorrent.
The solution (If i remember right!) is to turn off "thumbnail caching". You do this by going to your download folder in Windows:
Tool>Folder options>View>Do not cache thumbnails.
Also, if you set "View" to "details", rather than "Thumbnails" this will probably help.
Furthermore, on the left side of windows, (while you have highlighted a movie) you may see a "preview thumbnail" of the movie. Minimize that and I think your problems will be gone.
If all that doesn't work, try turning off Windows indexing. |

| Sweet Jesus! The download speeds are fast on Utorrent vs. BitTorrent. Fantastic! |

Hey there, Wormy! I'll owe you a beer if this advice of yours pans out!
I've got Korean-lang Windows only, so following your instructions was just a bit tricky. (It's actually something of a blessing in disguise, having the Korean Windows, since it forces me to use the local language a bit more than I might otherwise do.)
Anyway, I got as far as your last step, "Do not cash thumbnails," and chose "미리 보기 캐시 안 함," which I think must be the Korean equivalent. (Literally, Do not cache previews.)
So far so good!
Thanks again! |
