Hi, all,
I formerly taught English in Ch'ongju, married a Korean, went to the States, and am now back. Finding a job is not hard, BUT I now have two very young children (read 2.5 years and 2 months) who need to be put into daycare at least part time at some point because Grandma and Grandpa are sick and Dad is working, too.
I KNOW that they're going to be speaking Korean a lot, but the oldest already speaks quite a bit of English, and I was hoping to find a place where he might not lose what he's acquired (or at least, not lose too much).
Does anyone know of anything even masquerading as an English daycare in Daegu?

| My colleague sends his daughter to an English daycare centre in Siji (the Sawol end of subway line 2). I'll point him towards this thread to give you more info. |

No, daycare = child-minders.
Elizabeth, I am not sure that daycares in Korea take children in as young as 2 months old... they generally start at about 12 months but will take them in if they are 10 or so months..
Good luck. |

English daycare can be expensive, and you don't need it for the youngest (or really, the oldest, in my opinion). We send out daughter (18 months) to a daycare in our office complex. As the older speaks some English, maybe you can negotiate a discount. There have been some news items in the past about Koreans seeking out foreign playmates to help their kids learn English. Sorry, don't know any specific places. Maybe you need a place fast and now. You can just put her in a place close to home that is convenient and change later. We've changed a couple of times.
Also, if you have a local church, try there. Some churches run daycare which are one fourth the cost of private places. Good luck. |

Hey OP...
In Siji, there is an English Child program called Sunflower (해바라기)Academy or there is another school that has some western kids called Honors. The owner of Honors is a bit of a be-arch, but she really wants more western kids. Makes her school look better, so you might be able to get a discount. |

| OP I wish I could remember the name but there is one right across the street from Dong-ah Dept. Store in Suseong-gu. It's right above a KFC on the 5th floor. The facilities are nice but and the classes taught by foreigners are okay but not great. It's about 650,000 won a month. |

Hi,
I'm from NZ (working in Gyeongsan) and I send my 2 yr old daughter to Honors Club in Siji and as far as I am concerned, it is a great programme. It wouldn't be suitable for your youngest child though.
She goes between 10 & 2 mon-friday and the teachers speak english in the class (they drop her home as we live nearby so you will have to negotiate pickup and dropoff). She has lunch provided and sometimes joins in with the korean classes too.
Currently there are 3 other toddlers at Honors so one more would be great.
The ph no is 7929988. If you need any further advice, let me know.
ps. they have 4 american teachers at the school. |

Many thanks again! I checked out the one at the Dong-A Sports Center which claims to be an English Hagwon, but as far as I could see, the only English was half of the alphabet on one sign. There were no foreign teachers and only the woman in the director's office spoke English. None of the kids there even said "Hello" (which most children everywhere say to me). The people did seem nice, but not what I needed. I'll try to check out some of your other suggestions (sorry for the delay--I had limited computer access last week).

Oops, I forgot to mention that I also heard about one in Chilgok, but I haven't found it yet. Has anyone else heard of it?
