|
|
My boss is going to ask me tomorrow if I'd like to reduce my teaching hours significantly and spend the bulk of my time developing curriculum. I've been doing some work like this for the past couple months for extra pay, and now they want to make it an official position.
So, for those of you who've been in this situation...Do you have any advice for negotiating the position? Things like working hours/project times, resources, culpability, a raise...
There will be a lot of work to do, but typical project stuff I'd guess. I'll find out more tomorrow. My last school asked me to do this too, but we quit instead (for unrelated reasons).
I like the school, we plan to stay for another year after this, and the work I've done so far has been well received and successfully implemented.
Curriculum development is not a clause in my contract.
Thanks much!
**Edited to change title to generate more advice...at least that's the hope.

I work at a large hagwon, where we have 2 foreigners working on curriculum. They both work the same hours has our contracted teachers. I can't speak on their workload, but I know they both enjoy it. What I will do is, I will mention your post to them and have them get in touch with you either by posting on the site, or p'ming you. However they may not be members of the site. I know for a fact though, that they only work the equal amount of hours as the teachers. That said, they are trusted people, and they are not sitting around surfing the web while they should be working. (Not suggesting that you would be the type to do that) I guess what I am saying is, your boss trusts you enough to put this responsibility on your hands, and you simply have to say to him/her that you will work your 7 or 8 hours, and the job will get done when it is done. If you work overtime, it will be your choice, and it will be paid.
Most importantly is though, do you want to only do curriculum work, and be out of the class? I have written curriculae for my school, but I much rather the position I am in now. |
