|
|
What are some good file-sharing networks to download music from these days? I've been trying to download music lately using Bit Torrent, but the music selection available through Bit Torrent is nowhere near as good as their video selection.
Any hints? |

While it is not free, it has such aan extensive catalogue and is so cheap it might as well be free.
www.allofmp3.com
It is a Russian website and they have different copyright laws. I have given them USD$750 in the last two years. I have never had a problem with my credit card. This has bought me 4900 odd songs.
You have to go through a little rigamarole to give them money, Click And Buy -> Xrost -> allofmp3.com but it is worth it and only takes 3 minutes to give them USD$20 which will get you 10 - 12 albums of LAME VBR 192k mp3 files.
They will be shut down at the end of next year, I think. I give them money in the evening, and use their download program overnight, so I am not risking more than USD$20.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Soulseek yet. It's still going strong. |

I'm surprised you've been unable to find everything you want through bittorrent. Use isohunt (searches other bittorrent websites for you) or get yourself an oink.me.uk account. |

OK so I downloaded limewire but I can't get any of the songs to play. They all say searching for licence, licence not available, you are not authorized to view this. I never had this problem with bearshare but their selectoin sucked. how do i get limewire to work? |

Well, I tried Limewire and Soulseek. Limewire has a great selection of music, but you have to search for and download one song at a time, then you can only play it through Limewire's player. I wanted to be able to upload the songs to my MP3 player, but no luck, unless there's something I don't know.
Soulseek also has an amazing selection of music, but a lot of the songs that come up on the searches aren't really available. It also seems to have trouble downloading any songs with non-English characters in the title, making it tough to download foreign music. After several tries, I never managed to get a complete album.
The pleasant surprise was www.torrentz.com. It's probably the most complete torrent search engine out there, I was amazed by what I was able to find with it. The selection of music on bit torrent still isn't quite as good as what's on Soulseek, but if torrentz says it's out there, you'll get it eventually.
Thanks to everyone who posted replies. |
