I tried using the search function, but... well...
Where can I get a decent sports massage or deep tissue massage, especially in the Gangnam or Songpa area? I am not looking for anything "special." |

Good luck finding a massage that is not a hand job is hard to find. Finding a massage that doesn't feel like a mugging is also hard. (Korean massages are one step down from a street mugging.)
Any who good luck I would mind finding out myself. |

There is a good place that does deep tissue/accupressure near Yeoksam Station. You exit at the Star Building and instead of walking toward Gangnam Station walk along the other street (sorry I dont know the exit number. I use exit 2 an walk along the other side of the street). Anyway, walk until you come to a Crown Bakery on your right, about 600m down the road. It is directly upstairs from there. You will see the sign that says sports massage in Korean.
Good luck, I know those arent the best directions. |

There's a Thai massage place in/near Samjun-dong. I haven't been but my friend has. It's completely legitimate (no "funny business"), with a variety of choices: 60 / 90 / 120 minutes, oil / Thai / foot / "vitamin" (aromatherapy), etc. By his account it was a very good massage.
Same main road as Jamshil Hospital, but towards the Han (roughly north) a few blocks up on the opposite side of the road. Say you're facing the hospital: turn left and walk to the main intersection (past the KB*). Cross and continue in same direction. Walk a couple of minutes and up to your left (2nd floor) you'll see a big orange sign. Hard to miss. |

What are the costs of the Thai place and the one near Gangnam Station?
In the "funny" places: what would happen if a woman went in there? Would they turn her away, or would it just be a regular massage. |

Thanks folks.
I was going to try your suggestions, but then I mentioned in passing to my Kwanjangnim that I was going to get a sports massage and he found a place for me.
He also called and told them where I was sore, what sports I do, and what he thought my weaknesses were, so your experience may be different depending on your answers.
For 100,000 won I got some foot soaking and hand acupuncture. I got thrown on three difference wiggle-you-jiggle-you machines for my legs, and I got a 40 min massage. Yep, Wrench, it felt much like a mugging, but that's exactly what I needed. She was strong and it was a good massage to me. Total was two and a half hours of time for 100,000 won. Kwanjangnim may have asked for some discount for me, though.
Spoke a little English, but not much.
Place is called 우리경락마사지. Go to 학동 station on the olive line (line 7). Exit through 1. You'll see a Family Mark across the street and to the right. Turn to the right, walk past the FM (the place is on the same side of the street as the FM). Go through the crosswalk. Keep walking and you'll see a bright blue building on the right. On your side of the street, left, you'll see a building with a restaurant on the first level and the massage place on the second level. It's about 70 m from the subway station.
I have no idea what the machines did, and I wasn't expecting hand acupuncture. Now I've done those things in addition to getting Korean physical therapy and 부항 done here because of some bad hematoma due to playing soccer. Whenever I tell my mother (a nurse) about medical stuff here, she freaks out slightly. "They put suction cups on you and sucked the blood out using a machine????" |
