1 and 2. For anything less than 50cc no licence is required.
For 50c-124cc a car licence at least is required.
125cc+ You should have a bike licence.

3. Umm probably

4. If you're in Seoul maybe get a bike. If you're anywhere else definitely get a bike. I have an old beatup 125cc Daelim VS but its great. There's lots of beautiful places to go in Korea.

Oh and most bikes 125cc or less don't have plates and aren't registered. They should be, but it doesn't seem to matter with older less powerful bikes. I

Anyway have the Hyosung GV650? I want one..

1. Not sure what an international license will cover, but you you need a license to operate ANY motor vehicle in Korea.

2. A Korean license obtained by showing your native country's license (kinda depends on your country/state of origin) + and a small computerized test will allow you to ride a scooter or motorcycle up 125cc.

3. Yes, you need insurance BUT it only covers the other party or vehicle. Insurance companies refuse to cover the motorcycle or you. (Hence be sure to be covered by the school's health insurance!)

4. Know the road rules. You can buy an English manual at a local Korean "DMV". Must study it and take a larger written test and road test for a license to operate a motorcycle 250cc or higher. And bascially familiarize yourself with the locals way of driving for better and worse, don't be a hot-head, and relax and enjoy the ride.

Agreed, when in Seoul and on 2 wheels there is no reason to stop until you get to your destination.

Can you even imagine the carnage if they were? The highways would end up looking like some post apocalyptic nightmare war zone straight out of Mad Max.

its only because most of the bikes don't have the power to manuever on a highway... you let the 10 guys with litre bikes on the highway and it opens the door for every other schmuch that has a 49cc pink scooter tryin to nudge his piecer over 40kph to get on and create chaos
