I just gave my credit card details over the phone to a travel agent...
They only asked for my number (not type of card, security code... I'm used to giving these out for online transactions).
Is this normal? |

Nope. They won't be able to process it without the type and expiry of the card.
They just wanted it to put in your file or it was a new agent or poor
English on their part to NOT ask for the details.
Wanna bet you don't get your ticket as planned. |

Hmmm.
I phoned them up and asked them about this. I was put onto a man with perfect-e English. He assured me that their computer(a magic computer?) only needed the cc number and expiry date.
Oh dear.

Sure, I'll send you my credit card number if I lose.

I was under the impression that they didn't have anything except the CC number (no date or anything when I made the comment). If they have the date to match the card and the name (same as your ticket) then all bets are off and you will be a happy camper. |

Ive never had any probs giving credit card info over the phone, but when I did an online transaction it seems someone had more than their fair share of shopping with my money - and it wasnt me!! Turns out my bank is awesome and they cancelled my card before I even figured out what was happening.... and they refunded the money within 2 weeks without me having to even fill out the forms for it. |

Typically all that is need for a phone credit card transaction is the number and expiry date.
I will assume you gave your name to the person..
The 3 digit code on the back is only asked for additional security and the same goes for mailing address.
The first 4 digits on the card are specific to the issuer so you don't have to specify visa, mc, amex etc. |
