For the people that plan on leaving Korea in the near or distant future, how much money do you want to have saved before you jump ship and never return? Basically what is the final amount you need to have accumulated before you get the hell outta here? |

Yep. 1 million won per month plus the last month/severence. Very doable if it's a priority. |

I don't think I could EVER save enough to permanently jump ship. Poeple think they are doing something major by saving almost every dime/won they make here, but you'll just blow it all eventually anyways, especially if you want to set yourself up in the states or Canada. No one can make even $100,000 last forever. I think it's funny when people act like I must still have money I made here 4 years ago. Huh????? I don't live on ramyon and I shop sometimes. |

I dunno, I had her pegged as a floor-trader for Goldman Sachs until I realized they had nobody covering the KOSPI in town. Got me stumped now, I'm afraid. |

300K?????! Wow, thats quite a number!
I can't imagine staying in this country more than a year. I plan on having 23 Million won stashed away when my contract is up. |

Honestly dude..when I first got here I couldn't imagine staying more than a year myself. But now almost 2 years later..the money has been rolling in rather nicely. The way I look at it is.....you have to focus on something here to get you through. For some people..its the language experience..culture...job satisfaction..etc.etc.. for me......its the won. |

Well, make it 300K Canuckbucks and I'm in the game if I can stick it out another few years. Touch and go ... (bad habit, I know). |

300K is doable depending on the choices you make, the jobs you get and the kind of life you want for yourself while here.
The time it would take to save that up will mean a few years here....you should do more that focus on the won if you will be living in a country for that long...I mean...if you just save you are not accumulating anything but coin.
You can reach a certain goal and plan for a move back home by improving your skills and credentials...thats the key. Just plugging away and stashing won away for years will mean that when you return home, you will have outdated credentials and no skills that stand out.
So, I would say focusing on the won only or above all else is not your most profitable choice...just my two cents. |

300K solely from teaching, pimp? Goddamn.
I'll have about $24,000 saved including pension money. That is one year of hagwon work (2.2 mil) without doing a single private. |
