I was just offered a laughable contract from the Jung Chul school in Ilsan, and after refusing to commit to it, the recruiter asked me to come up with a contract that I could commit to.
So.... now I need to find a decent sample contract to send them as a final offer. I tried looking for the sample contract at EFL-Law but I was unable to find it. Could anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks again. |

Why don't you post your laughable contract here and let other people laugh at it and rip it apart for you? |

I posted it awhile ago, and everybody already ripped it apart, but the mods moved the thread.
Half the people who replied recommended that I refuse and create my own contract to offer the school (the school has already agreed to this idea).
The other half recommended that I just forget about it, because the contract was so bad that the school is bound to try to take advantage of me anyway.
I just want to find a fair contract to offer them in case they change their minds. Then at least I'll have the law on my side if there are any disputes. |

I had a similar situation. I rewrote the contract for what I wanted and ended up spending at least two weeks searching through Dave's for contract info during the process. Have you checked out the sticky yet?
I'm really happy with all the info on Dave's and am very happy with my contract. When I came to Korea, the school tried to get out of a few things on the contract and I was really glad that they were in there.
I would find out what the most important things are to you, put them in and refuse to budge on them while conceding things you don't care about. If your using a recruiter, they will know what the school will accept and cannot accept.
Prior to coming to Korea I worked in a field which involved heavy negotiations everyday and I consider myself to be fairly skilled. Having said that, I ended up conceding a lot to my school. I think it is more about finding out what the school wants and needs and what they are willing to move on. I liked the freedom I would have in the classroom and conceded a few things for it.
The thing that helped me the most was just spending a lot of time browsing the forum. There were a few things that nobody on the forum thought of that I wished were in the contract.
Hope that helps. |

If you're serious about working for the school, why don't you tell them explicitly the areas you had a problem with, and outline in a detailed manner the nature of the contract and its details that you'd be willing to settle for? If you're so confident that the contract was crap, then just tell them where the problems were, and tell them what is requried so that they can have you teach for them.
If you're as confident as you are that the contract is crap, then you should be able to come up yourself with an acceptable contract. Otherwise, you'll be waiting a long time before you find a job that is "acceptable". Never trust the critics on these boards, they are simply unrealistic in terms of what they expect people with no teaching experience can get in a contract. By far, what is more important, is the kind of school your'e going to work for than they kind of money they are going to pay. I know that I'd forgo 200-300 a month to work in a healthy work environment than one I can't stand. Do the research and be your own advocate. |

I understand that, but my gripes aren't solely about pay. Actually, I'd be willing to accept the pay as is in exchange for NUMEROUS other changes. I'll explain in a PM. |

This site might help you design an acceptable contract.
http://www.efl-law.com/contracts.php
Or at least give you some points to consider.
Good luck. |

He already did. It was one of the worst contracts I have ever seen posted here.
Mate, just go to EFl-Law and modify their sample contract. |
