Only had time to type of music, figure books, movies and life decisions can wait.

top albums of 2006
1. Patrick Watson - Closer to Paradise
one of the best albums i've ever heard period. If Jeff buckley played piano and used distortion pedals, this is what he'd sound like. Go check it out, right now. Ask Dan.

2. Sunset Rubdown - Shut Up I am Dreaming
Wolf Parade side project that manages to sound nothing like Wolf Parade. They even manage to cover I'll believe in anything and sound nothing like Wolf Parade. Makes up for hte dissapointing Swan Lake Album

3. Joanna Newsom - Ys
I got this album quite late, after a friend gushed about her amazing live shows. Her album is 5 or 6 tracks, each about 10 minutes long. Amazing folk music with lush sounds and imagery. For fans of final fantasy who crave more melody

4. The Coup - Pick A bigger weapon
My favourite hip hop album of the year. Most political hip hop albums get tired, but not this one. Great guests include all of Blackstar as well as Black Thought of the Roots.

5. King Kahn and BBQ Show - What's for Dinner
Authentic rockabilly music, great for dancing, drinking and anything else that's hi energy late night debauchery.

6. Pop Levi - Blue Honey
While the guy's a bit of a *beep* (ina low budget festival, i think he was on the only person who had a rider that included 5 towels and scented candles), this EP is top notch. Great brit pop, cant' wait to see a full length

7. Matt Nathanson - Live at the Point
that romeo & Juliet cover is one of my favourite covers ever and matt is as funny as ever.

8. Islands - Return to the Sea
Didn't you know, unicorns don't exist? Thank god, cause rough gem is the happiest song about the diamond trade i've ever heard in my life

9. Yeah Yeah Yeah's - Show Your Bones
Wasn't sold on this band until this album. After checking them out, it made me dislike Metric just a little bit more.

10 Jesse Jackson - S/T
a folk troubador from Florida, i'm hoping he has a huge year. If you like bright eyes or M. Ward, check him out.

honourable mention goes to
Toronto's The Ghost is Dancign who relaesed an amazing s/t EP. Great dance rock.
As well as Girl Talk - Night Ripper. While htis is definetly a gimmick album, anyone who manages to mix Elton John and Notorious BIG into the same track and still come off as cool is fuckign ard in my books.

most dissapointing albums
Amy Milan - Honey From the Tombs
stars are so good, and this was such crap.

Emily Haines & The Soft Skeleton - boring boring boring

Beck - The information
after Guero, i was expecting more. This album took all the boring self indulgent parts of every album beck's done and combined it into one.

Most overrated musicians
Tapes & Tapes - do not get the hype about htis album. Boring as shit.
Gnarls Barkley - cannot stand this song

Guiltiest pleasure
Christina Aguilera - Ain't no other man
It's hard not too dance to this song, so much fun

the nick lachey song where he sings about how jessica simpson broke his heart

what can i say, at work we listened to a pop station

concert highglights
Osheaga festival - seeing Dan Boeckner throw cheetos at G Love and Special Sauce, Dancing puppets during the Islands set, the entire flaming lips fest

Alden Penner's first show post unicorns

Patrick Watson, Jase Lasek,Stef Schneider (of Bell Orchestre), Denitia Odiji, Jesse Jackson and Gary Lucas jamming until the wee hours of hte morning. Last show i saw before i left montreal

Wasn't that a 2005 album?
Even so, a decent album but wouldn't crack my top 10 list.
Rockstar, are you quebecois? I don't think i've ever met someone outside quebec who listens to Malajube.

I've been meaning to check out eagles of death metal, perhaps i'll download that tonight.

je suis une anglo-ontarienne, mais mon epousse c'est un franco-ontarienne.
pardon my grammar and spelling.
i like malajube, my wife is really into quebecois music, it's rubbed off on me. les georges leningrad is another good french group.
she likes dianne dufresne, which is a bit too much for me.
eagles of death metal are fantastic, rockabilly (or ska) is probably my favourite genre of music, so they make me very happy. they're great live too.

i really like horrorpops and the cramps, great necrobilly! for good canadian rockabilly, nothing beats big jeezus truck, though they've been a bit stagnant for the past couple of years...

i'm not a huge arcade fire fan, they're a bit too art school for me (says i, who works in an art school). i like the song "no cars go" but the video bugs the s.h.it outta me, enough that i don't really like their music. i think it's all because of ed the sock, he really ripped into them during fromage 05. that was the first time i saw the video...
