I'm trying to call my bank in the states.
They have a toll free international number.
Does anyone know how to make a collect call in Korea? |

Do you have a microphone or headset? Use skype (www.skype.com). It's so pathetically cheap that you don't care. I call home (banks or other things I need to) all the time, get put on hold for 30 minutes, but at a couple bucks max, who cares Plus, I use my webcame and speakers, so I just go along doing whatever I need to until the operator finally comes up (cooking, watching TV, studying, whatever), getting rid of all that stress being put on hold used to create. |

If your bank has allowed international calls to 800 numbers, this is what yo need to do:
Quote: |
Calling from Republic of Korea is easy when you use the AT&T USADirect access number; calling tips and dialing instructions listed below. Create an itinerary.
AT&T USADirect Access Number
Dial this number first when calling from Republic of Korea.
00-729-11
to place calls using Korea Telecom
00-369-11
to place calls using ONSE
00-309-11
to place calls using Dacom
Detailed Dialing Instructions
Calling Tips
Country-to-country calls may be placed to or from Republic of Korea
Pay phones require coin or card deposit
To place calls from U.S. Military bases, dial 550-4663 when using Korea Telecom or 555-2872 when using Dacom

From my credit union's link to http://www.usa.att.com/traveler/index.jsp
If it's a really big bank (like Citibank, for example,) you should be able to call collect and just say "OiGirl from Korea" when the operator/computer asks your name. |

I use yahoo messenger. I pay $10 using my bank account in the states and I get 1000 minutes. I have used it to call 800 numbers but I think I still get charged the penny/minutes. That's 60 cents/hour and if you use the service every 180 days the minutes don't go away. Other services will cost you a monthly service fee. -Jeff |

Some 800 numbers specify only in Canada or the US (or wherever you live ). This might be one of those. |
