This is very likely just paranoia, but I was reading the thread about the busan 9 and came across this..."2) It is illegal for us to do volunteer work at orphanages. That has been common knowledge here at Dave's for years. One of the early links in this thread had a comment that the people who are musicians performing in bars or who taking part in poetry readings are also in violation of visa regulations.
I haven't heard from my buddy since last Thursday when he went to a gig in another city. He always emails back in a day or so. No cell contact either.
Without alerting the authorities that he might be someone to look at, is there a way to find out if he's in lock-up? |

Nope. IF you ask they will wonder why.
Try calling some of his other friends or co-workers. It is more likely that he got into a drunken brawl or in a traffic accident or lost his phone. |

"Nope. IF you ask they will wonder why."
Thought so.
I don't have the numbers of his friends in the other city.
Drunken brawl? Hell no. Trust me.
Lost cell phone.... Email.
Accident. Possible. Hope not. That would suck.
I will give him another 24 hours and then get really worried.
Thanks. |

Sorry to jack your thread at a bad time, but my boyrfriend DJ's (for free) at a local club. Should he be worried about being spotted even though he's not getting paid? |
Legally, yes. It is NOT covered by his status of sojourn. They don't need proof that he is getting paid. Just a complaint.
It is a stupid law, but it is the law and it is subject to interpretation by the person in charge of the investigation at the time of the alleged offence. |

You could always come up with an elaborate scheme to break into immi lockup to see if he's there. There are lots of well-thought-out and intricate plots in movies and television, but a lot of them do seem a little extreme, and maybe impractical.
Are embassies notified when citizens are in lockup? Maybe you could ask his embassy if they've heard anything, wouldn't arouse suspicion that way. Also, remember that at this time of year, many people are very busy, their schedules change, they are traveling, and/or all of the above, and sometimes that makes them hard to get in touch with.
Sorry I don't have any other helpful thoughts. Try not to worry too much--he's a big boy, and he'll be okay. |

yes, he's a big boy, and he will be ok. But if he is indeed on his way out of the country, then someone needs to take care of his gear here... |

Can I continue playing my harmonica on my roof? Could that be deemed a stage and my neighbours & dogs the audience? I'm not being paid, but still... I just read my visa regulations and I can't find anything on harmonica playing.
I'm betting (and of course hoping) your buddy's just fine, Poet. (Is poetry allowed under your visa?) |

That's a silly question. Of course not! And I can no longer take part in poetry readings. |

Poet, do you know what school he works at?
Could you give his school a call? or get a co worker to call for you?
