I was listening to Howard Stern.
He was saying how just recently he was allowed to broadcast in Canada. I couldn't believe it.
I also know it took Fox News forever and day to be allowed to broadcast up there.
So what's the deal with that?
Is it censorship. Or do people have to wait till the spring in order to thaw out and get things done? |

Canadian TV we have nudity and swearing. Janet Jackson would not upset the CRTC. When we see gun camera footage of Americans blowing up Iraqis or their own men, we don't edit out the F words or the "say hello to allah" as the hellfire missiles strike.
However, we do have regulations (similar to Korea's movie screen quota system, if you remember your Korea days) about how much foreign content can be on our public airwaves. Outside of the USA, these kinds of rules are fairly common. There is little danger the music or TV shows of France are suddenly going to capture huge swaths of the American dial and destroy the domestic entertainment industry (although your American legislators were looking at some legal remediation for all the jobs Hollywood was losing to Canadian production companies). Hence, there's never been a need to regulate in that area. However, there are certain restrictions on foreign ownership of the American media. Don't want CNN or Fox News suddenly pushing for socialized medicine, you know. Yes, American media has its own censorship. You should probably worry more about that then Canadians not being able to experience the glory of Fox News.
But yeah, imagine a government regulates foreign content. It's unthinkable. |

Whew!
I was very concerned that you'd miss out on the glories of FOX news.
Thanks for alleviating my stress. |

| Howard Stern used to, and probably still does, irk some Canadians by bashing the French language. |

Wish we could have got Stern in Calgary, instead of the re-tread Gerry Forbes.
As for the French bashing, most Canadians don't mind I would guess, as they are the biggest bunch of whiners who just want citizenship one day, separatism the next. Fly-by-nighter Canadiens. |

I remember Trailer Park Boys refused to change the show so it could be shown in the US. The reason? Because Bubbles would have to stop saying "caulksucker."
If you swear on Canadian TV, you will not owe the government half a million dollars. |

You can get him.
You just have to sign up for satellite radio.
I have it. His show is absolutely disgusting. But it makes me laugh--sometimes.
Sometimes it's so revolting that I have to turn the channel. |
