|

My friends and I were in a pub in Itaewon on Christmas. We saw this one ESL type sitting all alone and drinking a beer. He didn't look happy with his situation. I suggested to my friends (female) we invite him to join us. They rejected the idea. That's where their sympathy ended I barely even remembered it was Christmas yesterday.
Anyone else see some mournful displays?

That sounds a bit sad. No sympathy from your friends, huh? Bummer.
The saddest person I saw was this guy who was manning the station at some men's suit store around 7pm. He looked dejected and outstandingly bored. No one is suit shopping on Christmas night. WHY are they open? I felt really bad for him. |

The saddest display I saw today was my youngest sister, who moped despite mountains of presents, aromatic feasts, and loving family gathered around from the far corners of the earth. She announced she would not deign to spend next year with us. Hopefully this experiment will render her a little more able to appreciate the grace, affection and loyalty this family shares. |

Guy could have wondered around to the Korean bars.
Most Korean bar workers male or female, will talk to a customer (foreigen or Korean)
To the OP. Your intentions were good. Too bad about your companions. Could have been one of those doods in the over 30 thread.
Hope I can have the same intentions should I find myself in a similar situation. |

Oh contrair! I sat around playing world of warcraft, then working on a curriculum for a typical BS hagwon because me and my friends actually had our get-together on christmas eve. Worst, christmas, ever. |

Man, I'd eat kimchi every day for a year just to get my copy of World of Warcraft now. (I want to be an undead dude. What's a good undead character? The warlock?)
Since I knew none of my gifts would be here on time, I went to Homeplus on Christmas Eve and bought myself some presents. On Christmas, I received some multi vitamins, some MP3 earphones, a laptop cleaning kit, and some spices. Actually, it wasn't that bad of a day. |

How's this for Christmas good will?
Early yesteday morning I heard lots of screaming outside my window. I went to look out my window and I saw 4 guys chasing another guy down the alley.
They caught him and beat the living crap out of him. They smashed his head into a door a couple of times and punched him. While he was laying there one of the guys kicked him in the head a couple of times. They then walked away leaving him there unconcsious. I saw all this from the window of my apartment.
After talking to my girlfriend and making sure the 4 guys had left, I went down to check on him but he was gone by the time I got down in the elevator. There are a bunch of karaoke places around he may have had some friends come and take him away.
Not the most pleasant way to ring in Christmas. |

I had 22 hours of constant drinking for Christmas.
Highlights include at least 20 games of pool, free wine and caviar breakfast at the Hamilton, being politely roused from my sleep by a little police munchkin (after falling asleep at the bottom of someone's driveway) and falling asleep again on the train coming home (ending up further away from anywhere than I've ever been ever before).
Not the best Christmas but had it's moments without doubt.
I missed my mummy. |

this has happened to me many times, sitting alone in a bar and having people calling me over. actually, if i'm sitting alone, there's a reason for me sitting alone. i just want to drink something, comptemplate something and then go on my merry way. being alone doesn't always mean someone is lonely or looking for friends. |

Thats what seperates the wheat from the chaff though
isn't it? Anyone can make a grand public gesture and
everyone thinks they are a great guy. But real empathy and decency comes from situations like this. The fact that you suggested inviting this
guy amongst your friends so he could have a lighter and happier christmas for just even an hour or so shows that you are a decent human being and you can feel good about yourself and your principles.
Most people would be like your friends though, but most people
are selfish arseholes and not worth knowing. I know I would have
joined the guy and had him laughing within a minute.
The secret is not to attach too much emotional empahsis on
Christmas or New Year. In my working life up till now night shift in places
that were akin to Dantes Inferno which included Christmas/New Years
night made sure I lost any emotional attatchment to what happened to me during this holiday period.
I remember the eve of the millenium, ringing in sick from work and me and my mate Joey drinking Murphys in my grotty flat in St Helens
while throwing empty cans at Anthea Turner and Dale Winton on the TV
slagging everyone we knew off, it was a great night to be sure. Listening to the fireworks going off outside. |
