what are the most obnoxious, in your face stores in Korea! For me, its a bit of a three way tie...1) cell phone steet in Daegu. If you have walked down in, you know what im on about. Loud music from one store to the next and doors wide open with the heat beating out. 2) There is this one particular jewelry shop in downtown Daegu, its between Daegu department store and Seattle Coffee. I have never, EVER seen so many lights turned on in one place in my life! I swear you could probably see this place from the moon. I have to put my shades on as I walk by! 3) Emart meat department. I like listening to my Ipod when shopping to block out yelling sales people, but the Gogi dudes, wow they can shout I tell ya! "BUL-GOGI...SAM CHUN IL KILO!!!" and im three feet away from the dude.
I just want it to be known this isnt a downplay on Korea, its cultural, and I know that...but im curious what stores wreck your head. Make me/us laugh....Xmas shopping was hard enough today, with the three above I was popping Tylenols 45 minutes into it.
Happy hoho
DK

This isn't the 'in your face' store but it's definately a phenomenon. The Paris Bageutte. And all I can figure is they think, these Paris Bageutte ladies, that just by working there they are magically transformed into culturally superior Parisians. Whereas any other dealers of baked goods behave less flightily. Is Paris Bageutte the ULTIMATE bakery? Ask them and these ladies would respond, 'If Napoleon had had Kimchi there would have been no Waterloo! Vive le France!'

There is a store in Ilsan (in La Festa) that is fuchsia. I'm not talking just a fuchsia sign, or anything like that. This has fuchsia walls, with spotlights aimed at them so the light they reflect is fuchsia, and mirrors that also reflect this fuchsia. Anything that is not fuchsia is black. The color emanates from it like bad perfume, assaulting the eyes if they are aimed anywhere near it. The funniest thing was watching a girl wearing a fuchsia and black striped scarf over a fuchsia jacket disappear as she walked in.

That store, and the pure 'whiteness' of the Face Shop are my votes.

There is a cell phone store in Samcheonpo, that is, I swear to God, lit only with blacklights. I despise it.

My favorite in-your-face store moment though, is the new electronics store that opened across from E-mart in Jinju. For the grand opening, as Korean stores tend to do, there were loudspeakers BLARING some crappy Korean pop while a couple of girls in short shorts gyrated on a platform and "sang" along with the songs. Not to be outdone, the older electronics store across the street fought back with their own dancing girls in skimpy clothing! That was the most obnoxious streetcorner.

So far I've found the produce section of E-mart to be the ultimate worst. Have you been in the one at Manchon DaeguKid? It's awful...I know you've got bloody bananas man, frig off!
