I've been seeing some guys claiming 8MB/s on bittorrent. Frankly, I'm not believing it...but who knows. However, I'd like to see what everybody is getting here in the ROK. I'd like to know if my ISP is any good so I can change (or not) before the trial is over. Let's compare using this site:

http://www.numion.com/YourSpeed3/Select.php?Country=&Language=&Top100=0

Select: Measure MaxSpeed, Measure SurfSpeed, and Republic of Korea. (no others for the sake of validity)

Please list your stats. I got (8:45pm Busan) :

Download speed: 4,474 Kb/s (4.47 Mb/s)
Upload speed: 1,587 (1,59 Mb/s)
Surfspeed in ROK: 604
Latency: 613

Cheers.

Download speed: 6,356.32 (794.54) 100%
Upload speed: 1,680.43 (210.05) 93%
Surfspeed inside Republic Of Korea: 3,218.05 (402.25) 83%
Latency: 602 milliseconds

I ran the test about 6 times and got completely different results each time. I don't think these speedtests are very accurate. Anyway, the above results were the fastest.

And I can assure you, my torrent downloading speed peaked at 8mbps one night last week before my HDD gave overload warnings and uTorrent capped the speed at 4.5mbps. I couldn't sleep at night if I thought I had turned into the kind of person who lies about their internet speed to strangers on a message board!!

I was uploading torrents at 5mbps before I went into uTorrent options and capped it at 500kbps. Why would I want to wear out my HDD just to improve my torrent ratios?

Thanks for taking the time guys Smile

I was just curious about what everybody else is getting on these uhum... "100Mbit" connections. What's up with that? I've never gotten anything anywhere close to 100Mbits/s! Maybe I'm just dumb and don't get it Confused

@eamo...you said 8 mBITS/second (1Mb/s) right?...well that's pretty normal, as I've been getting 4.5-6.5 Mb/s on this and other speed tests. Also, I've downloaded at 2MBYTES/s (16 Mb/s) at times for M$ and Adobe.

64 MBITS/s! (8 MBYTES/sec) just seemed too unreal to me.

Cheers.

Isn't 100mbps just a theoretical limit? Something that the line and ethernet card could handle if it should be possible to transmit data at that rate.

I'm guessing uTorrent uses bits per second and not bytes to measure speed.

I tried downloading Acrobat Pro from the Adobe site (pain in the arse with the signup..but seems the fastest download I can find). I peaked at 4.5 MBYTES/s (thats 36 Mb/s)! Averaged about 4.0 MB/s. I couldn't believe it! At least that is approaching the theoretical limit.

I used this site: http://speed.nia.or.kr/english/

Here are my results:

As you can see, I'm not getting 100 mbits/second, but I guess that's due to the length of the cable they have to run and other factors. In any case, it's fast enough for me. (And before anyone jumps in here, yes I realize that that is the maximum speed possible and that I don't get that on your average torrent.)

Edit: And yes, I tried the link in the OP, it is crap (for Korea anyway.)

Those speed tests are sometimes a bit unreliable. Anyway, here is what you get with KT lite.

Green is download and red it upload. I've capped the upload at 40kB/s in this session.

So, you'll be making the quick switch to KT Lite, Hanguker? Confused
