I know this is a question for many, going into various countries... What is the best way to carry money?

My specific question is: I am heading off to Vietnam this weekend.. what's the best way to bring money for the trip? US$? Traveller's cheques? Anybody with experience who could help me would be greatly appreciated!

Take a few US$ with you and then when you get there, use your ATM card. (Provided you have an international ATM card)

Carry enough US$ with you to cover your expenses for at least a week (in case you can't find an ATM that works with your card. Make sure you have an international ATM card.

Also pick up some

In realistic terms, $1000 is only 10 bank notes (10 x $100) and should be enough for a week or two. A money belt, or even just splitting it into 4 pockets would be adequate for protection.

Carry another hundred in small bills until you can convert currency. I don't know if the money exchange at the airport carries VIET Dong.

If you are worried about losing it, make use of the safe at the hotel where you are staying (ask the desk). I have never stayed in a hotel that did not have one.
