IMO, in the mid 90's it was the Universities, but as can easily be found on this website, "the times they are a changing." Now, I think the best job (if you have an F-2) is tutoring high school students (10 hours = 1,000,000 approx.). A close second would have to be corporate teaching (50,000 plus per hour). I am not overly aggresive in looking for "the best" gig, (hey, I was born in Scotland, so I think anything over 30,000/hour is decent money) but I have friends who won't even leave their apartment for less than 60,000/hour; and this is in Ulsan! I can only imagine what teachers in Seoul or Busan can make.
PS. I hope I do not come accross as arrogant; it is just that I am genuinely curious as to what others think is a good job and wage in korea thesedays. |

I still say unis are the best gigs. If you can find one that has you on a 12 hour/week schedule and 5 months of vacation, well, I don't think anyone would say no to that.
A guy I worked with in Thailand said the best was getting a part time job in Korea that will pay for your visa, and then do privates the rest of the time. Personally, I think the best job would be one where your boss isn't a clueless idiot who is always looking for ways to screw you over. But that can be hard to find in Korea. |

Many people feel public school jobs are the best, but it really comes down to what you can get. Uni jobs are going to be difficult for a newbie during the first year, especially if you are not here when doing a job search. |

My friend tutors HS students in groups of 2 or 3 four four hours a week. He charges each one's parents W300,000 a month. 20 students is already W6,000,000 / month.
That is where the money is at if you don't mind working late into the evening. |

No job...just tutoring because they have the F2 and their own house. |

Yep,having your own house would give that sort of freedom.I have an F2 but not the house.
My question though is,what subjects does s/he tutor for that?
My HS has plenty of extra classes(including CNN listening) but the only ones I seem able to do,without treading on other toes,is the generic conversation one, which of course the more fluent students usually DON'T take.
I'm guessing perhaps CSAT classes?Maybe even a "head-start" on TOEIC/IELTS? |

The best job I have discovered is teaching debate at a hogwan. 30 hours gets you 3.2 million and paid housing, benefits, etc... Only problem is that you need to know about debate.
Public schools will pay more money for less hours if you can get one of the 6 great debate high school coaching jobs in Korea (good luck). |
