Hey, does anyone know anything about the rules that govern on this subject?

If I'm working for an elementary school during the regular school year and they have no problem allowing me to work at a hogwan or something after hours, is there a limit on how many hours I'm able to work (I mean legally, not physically capable of)? If so, how is that determined? What's the limit? And to further specify, I mean on an E-2 visa.

Just curious, what the rules & regulations are, or if it's totally at the whim of the random immigration officer. I don't have an additional job now, but I'm thinking about it and figured I should know what my parameters are before I get serious.

Thanks.

To the best of my knowledge it is illegal for a public school teacher (Korean or foreign) to take a 2nd job outside the public school system.

If you work in a hakwon you can take a 2nd job in another hakwon.
If you work in a public school you can do extra work in another school but not in a hakwon.

This is NOT an immigration policy but a department of education policy. It was designed to prevent a conflict with teachers recruiting for hakwons or more to the truth, requiring their students to attend their hakwon after school.

And before I forget to answer your question, (if I am not mistaken) it is the policy of the immigration department to ensure that you teach a maximum of 30 hours per week (which is why they ask for schedules as well as copies of your contracts.)

I work at a private elementary school, not a public elementary school. I don't know what difference that makes, if any. The whole private school thing throws me off sometimes. I guess the 30-hour limit tells me what I need to know.

Thanks for your help--I saw you were browsing the forum and I was hoping you'd respond to my post!

So ttompatz, if I work at hagwon A, I can take a job working at hagwon B as well even if they're not connected in any way?
