|
|
So I was in Kyobo bookstore a couple of weeks ago and I see this book called A History of Knowledge (by Charles van Doren). It's in the general non-fiction section. I think to myself, "Shouldn't this be in the Korean interest section Or the Korean history section?" I scratch my head and decide that someone had misplaced the book. (It happens.) I decide to take it anyway.
I get home and look at the chapter headings. No mention of Korea. I go to the index. No mention of Korea. Baffled I read the book from cover to cover. No freekin mention, anywhere. On it goes about the Greeks, the Egyptians, the Brits, the French etc...all to the arrogant disregard of King Sejong et al. What the heck is going on? I think to myself, "Should I return this nonsensical book for a refund?" I'm wrapping it for the return, then a thought hits me. "Could the several hundred Koreans who have told me about Korea's genius be lying, misinformed, or even deluded?
Confused I check the internet to see if reviewers have attacked the book for its factual omissions. Not one reviewer had the integrity to stand up for King Sejong and his water catcher. So I check for Korean nobel prizes in science on the net, thinking I can get some balance here. But, to my complete horror, I see that America has won about 200, but Korea has won zero. Surely there is a conspiracy against Korea I think to myself. Who could be behind it? The Masons? The White House? The Jews? Don't they know that kimchi cures cancer and prevents SARS? I don't know whether to feel angry or sad. But Korea isn't being done justice. Can the international community not see how many peoples lives have been saved by Korean research on fan death. And the international conspiracy to refute the groundbreaking work done on human cloning by that nice Dr. Kwang.
When will it end people? When will it end? |

Why would it be?
Two possibilities come to mind:
a. The poster is so over-wrought that he flipped the location in his hysteria.
b. The whole thing is a figment of his imagination because he wanted to rant on Korea's lack of scientific contributions.
I vote 'b', but you never know. In either case, the poster needs a vacation very, very badly. |

| Some good humor included, and it is obviously Kyobo's fault for selling the rubbish. Check and see if Amazon.com sells it, they deserve a good boycott. |

I know how frustrating that can be.
You can report the error at this site on Korea.net.
http://www.korea.net/about/eng_err_reporting_list2.asp
It is sight where you can report errors from publications overseas such as the University of Colorado's error of labeling the body of water between Japan and Korea as both the, "East Sea and the Sea of Japan," or the CIA world fact book mistake of labeling it as the, "Sea of Japan." |

That was funny.
I thought something similar about Harry Potter books and movies. No mention of Korea, no Koreans in the movies. How shortsighted can people be? Why they continue to refuse to acknowledge the genius and greatness of DaeHan MinGuk is beyond me. I guess it's just sour grapes. |

Could be a good future storyline for the Potter franchise. Korean quidditch team turn up at Hogwarts to play the locals. In the ensuing melee the Korean team fail to penetrate despite the presence of three over-rated players with overseas experience. Luckily they sneak an equalizer, only to be denied by a controversial last-minute goal by a player who could be perceived to be offside if one had a less than perfect understanding of the rules. Chaos follows, the WQF* website is bombarded with millions of irate emails and kimchi-based spells. Whitefaced wizards in Seoul are threatened. Korean team returns and the match is replayed incessantly for the next four years on TV. Whaddya think? |

Very good! Reminds me of Billy B Robertsons observation about the show "The Amazing Race" receiving poor tv ratings here |

| I really can't decide which side of the two(the mocked ones or the mocking one) is actually dumber than the other. |

If my head explodes it's because your grammar is so incredibly atrocious. You will be held accountable in a court of law. |
