Hey guys, they are doing a Turkey dinner with all the fixings at Canada Buddy in Bucheon. It's 30,000won per person, and it's on the evening of the 24th I believe.
Cheers!
If you need more info, let me know!

Yeah, I saw that too. Sounds like a pretty sweet meal. Lance said that it also comes with a glass of wine or a beer, I think. I was thinking about going to it as well. But, like always I'll be the lonely old fat guy sitting at the bar.

That could be a sad statement, worthy of pity... depending on perspective.

I'm alone for Christmas this year, too. I'm at present in Thailand, and headed to India a few days after. Christmas day for me is gonna be beers on Khao San road, and maybe a piece of grilled chicken from a street vendor.

Sad? Depends on perspective. I could be hanging with friends or family or whatever, as in past years. If that were the case, I'd know exactly how the event would turn out, weeks before it even went down.

As it is, though, there's no telling what might happen. Maybe I'll meet a sweet bird in a similar situation. Maybe I'll get into a drunken chant with a group, connect, and have a very stimulating time. Who knows?

Chin up, Stumptown. Go to that bar. Sit down by yourself. But don't feel self-pity. If you connect with people, rock on. If you don't, well, just enjoy your drinks and dinner and enjoy the stimulation you feel from those good friends at the end of the room, enjoying the moment.

A lot of times I go to bars, I don't want to talk to anyone. Just wanna feel the buzz of other people. It sure beats getting pissed by myself in a grotty room.

Merry X-mas, dude.

Excellent point. Anybody could benefit from being in a happy place where the language is your own and you have a good beverage and a well prepared meal that reminds you of home or, for the time being, makes you think that, in some sense, you're back home.

Go for it and have a good time. You'll probably meet some nice people and walk away from the gathering with at least a couple of fond memories.

Merry Christmas!

30,000 won for a plate of turkey or self helpings?

Sounds a bit dear for us poor teachers.

Kee-rist!!! I was poking fun at myself in a way. I'm not that fat, old or lonely either. I'm quite happy. I was kind of going on along the lines of Korean thinking that if you go to a bar by yourself, you have no friends. No, I'm going to be perfectly happy sitting at the bar and talking to Lance, the owner and eating delicious food. Happy Holidays to everyone!

Have you checked around for the cost elsewhere? 30k is a sweet deal. I'm sooo in, I got tickets #1 and #2 the day the came out.

Of course, if you don't like turkey for Christmas it's not such great value...sorry - were you being ironic?

I agree, this has also popped up in the Ladies Lunch Forum. When did $30 for a meal become too expensive? Confused
I remember going for dinner back home and you were LUCKY to have a decent meal for under $30 including your drink. Not to mention if you ever eat at one of the Western Chain restaurants they charge an arm and a leg PLUS VAT. I would happily pay $30 for a full Turkey dinner, especially since I haven't had one for so long, and I know how big the portions are and all the extras you get at Canada Buddy! Very Happy
Maybe this is really only appealing to us long-timers who really miss the Turkey! Question

Exactly. Everything they make there is top quality delicious food, and I'm sure if you wanted a little extra mashed potatoes and gravy or stuffing, they wouldn't say no. Thirty bucks is nothing for a turkey dinner. Check the prices at the local hotels if you think it's too much. Besides, I'd rather support that business and help keep it going. It's an awesome bar run by great people.

I agree. I've arranged turkey dinners with all the trimmings in the past at my house, and you're looking at least 25k per head.

Occasionally you need to have a bit of a splurge. Those sort of dinners are also a great way to meet new people and have a taste of home. No point in working a whole heap if you can't enjoy a bit of a splurge every now and again.

I would love to go to the Canada Buddy but it's just too far away for me. But big props for the owner for doing this. Support your fellow waygooks!

Hey, I'm not trying to knock the deal. I love eating turkeys (damn I had 3 parties through the weekends one time in Japan that were all serving the birds). I was thinking more like 10,000 won a plate or something if it wasn't a buffet or there wasn't going to be anything else. Sorry if I sound like I'm causing a stink but hey its christmas, its a time of lavish spending or a time of generosity.
