Yep- I was handed a moldy costume that was probably last worn by a diseased circus freak who puked in the costume before returning it. I played Santa for a bunch of students.
The bad news? Just before I walked in, a good-old bitter lefty Korean teacher told the kids that "there's no Santa", and that it was "made up by Americans to sell, sell, sell" stuff. Nice- that's an example of the "kind Korean staff" I have as co-workers .
The good news? Because the kids KNEW it was me, they ASSUMED that the presents were from ME. I'm a hero to those who received presents. |

Yup. But I had a new costume.

I think the 7 year olds knew it was me, but I don't think most of the 6 year olds figured it out. Afterwards, one of the girls mentioned that Santa wore the same shoes as I did. |

I did it last year. Apart fro the inhalation of fluff, it was quite fun as far as self-amusement went, with the practicing of various forms of ho hos.
The students had to help me don the outfit so there was no guesswork as to my ID. When the show was over and I was in mufti again, I asked the students if they knew who santa had been. .
The joke was so lame, that the ss could barely rouse themselves to respond. Before they could fully do so, I'd interrupt and gleefully exclaim that it had been me all the time.
The more they protested, the more I made to misunderstand their denials as shock.. |

I was our Santa, I was told to speak like a grand father (I'm a girl) and they wanted me to cover my eyes (to really fool the kids) - I found some fluff and couldn't see anything.
The kids had no idea who I was - I don't really teach Kindy!
They were kinda in shock I think, I've never seen them so well behaved.
I'm still not in the Christmas mood |

I didn't get to be Santa this year and I was really disappointed.
If you are into working with little ones... santa has to be the best gig going.
I'll volunteer every time. |

Isn't Christmas also a Korean national holiday? Why don't the kids know more about it? |

It hasn't been fully exploited by the toy companies and what-not. You can notice things getting worse/better???
Emart now sells a lot fo Christmas stuff.
Ah commercialism at work. |

I did it back in 2002. Only one time though. It sort of went like this:
Do you want to play Santa?
Ok.
We'll get a suit.
Ok.
You are not playing Santa.
Ok.
You are playing Santa.
Ok.
You are not playing Santa because we can't get a costume.
Ok.
We found a costume!
Ok. |

I didn't like being santa because I'm not fat or jolly.
We had to visit our kindergarten at their homes and it was interesting to watch them disappear under the sofa at the sight of this furry red and white bloke appearing at the door.
And it was the most surreal experience ever, being driven around Korea in an MPV, stuck in rush hour traffic wearing the whole Santa get-up.
But strangely heart-warming to bring that kind of excitement to little kids' lives. Think I must be going soft! |

I agree. If playing Santa doesn't warm the blood, you shouldn't be teaching kids. I played Santa once back in Chicago and once here. Both times, I was coerced into it, but seeing the kids react is totally worth it. Especially with the under 5 crowd that totally buys in to it. |

I played Santa this year for some young students. It was a lot of fun. I thought it was funny because I am a skinny guy so I thought I would not make a good Santa. The kids seemed to love it though! HO HO HO! |

My coworker played santa at my school. He burst through the door and nearly gave us all heart attacks. The beard he was wearing looked like a dead beaver held on with bits of white yarn. |
