I've cruised this Forum for several months and have read some very interesting dialog about the pro's and con's of the many different jobs, schools, contracts, personal and professional issues, and of course the littany of legal issues that inevitably afflict all in one way, shape, or form.

Topic #1
Recruiting Agencies:
Is there, or has there ever been an effort to bypass the recruiting agents and actually have teachers recruit for their own agencies? Could it work? Would it work?

Do you mean set up your own agency?

If so, it is a violation of most E visas to own your own business here in Korea.

Not an agency nor business - but it seem that most schools in need of teachers have current ones that would be willing to look for replacements through the venues available to us - such as "Dave's", etc.

Dave's is paid for by both schools and Agencies running ads here.

If you're basically talking about referals though.. it happens all the time. I'm not sure what would be new about that.

Many schools do that: they ask their teachers for referals (do you know a good teacher?).

As for centralizing this activity or having it run by foreign teachers...that is just another way of saying recruitment agency. Also, there are many recruitment agencies run by westerners in Canada, the UK, the US and other countries....

Hi Dean, it happens all the time like CC said, not sure if the old teacher gets paid a bonus or a commission however. If that were the case I can see a lot of teachers taking advantage and simply working like a recruiter. That's something Korean immigration would most likely not tolerate unless it made them money somehow. So not sure it's legal, perhaps someone can shed light on the issue.
