So... I'm leaving small town USA to move to Seoul in 2 months and I'm trying to gather a list of things I need to do like:

-get my drivers license renewed as it will expire before i get back
-get my banks info for wire transfers
-pay my taxes
-switch all my cc's to online
-get my laptop fixed
-visit, visit, visit...

anyone got any HELPFUL ideas of things to add? Laughing

please and thank you. xoxo

if you are in seoul or near a american installation then you'll be able to get a lot of 'home products' at your friendly grey market store.

Plenty of cold meds available but why one could be bothered taking them is beyond me as they have been proven to be of zero use in fighting a flu virus. Some should bring a supply of you favorite toothbrushes, anti perspirant/ deodorant, condom's and some KY jelly if you will be working for a school you haven't bothered to thoroughly check-out beforehand.

What kind of cold meds?

Might want to get an International Driver License if you think you might drive before you get a Korean license.

Depending on your situation, you might want to think of giving someone Power of Atorney or at least putting them on a checking account.

Forward your mail if you're vacating an address.

Returning library books is always on my last-minute going-away list, but that's just because I'm lame.

Things to stock up on is a thread in itself, but basically, a few months' worth of any health and beauty supplies you can't live without.[/list]

spliff i just take them to help me sleep at night when i'm sick. benadryl seems to do the trick.

and library books returned is not lame, i will have to do that. as for driving in korea, not a chance, i just wanna have it as an ID not expired when i come back.

and i can do my credit card payments online so i should be ok about that? hmm. moving is complicated, esp. to a different country. but i can't wait!

Unisom is available, also the same drug under another name. But I haven't been able to find Benadryl.

Benadryl is diphenhydramine, which is available. I'd never heard of an allergy medication being used for colds until I came here. My husband thought he was having a reaction and the pharmacist wouldn't sell it to him because she said it was for colds. Shocked

Diphenhydramine is marketed as both a sleep aid and an allergy medication in the US. You can buy the exact same bottle of pills in Wal-Mart generic with both labellings.

Can they receive international transfers? If not, your bank is stupid and will lose money as you should find a bank that will accomidate you.

Benadryl is called Certizine here. Its sold in 10 mg capsules in a pack of ten so basically four pills equals one american pill if I remember correctly. But it is available for about 2000 won if you really need it.

Cetirizine Hydrochloride = Zyrtec
Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride = Benadryl (Dimedrol outside the US)

Unisom = Doxylamine Succinate or Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride (I get Doxylamine succinate in Korea, it's also available under another name which I can't recall)

I have insomnia and respiratory allergies and know my antihistamines, and have very different reactions to Cetirizine Hydrochloride, Diphenhydramine Hydrochloride, and Doxylamine Succinate. I just wouldn't want someone else like me to get the wrong thing!
