I don't get it
I am from Africa (but white) and in my opinion Koreans are much more like black Africans than "European Africans"
I dont mean anything by it...it's simply my objective view having lived here for 4 years

A few days ago a black man from Nigeria came to our school to ask for money for missionary work and some kids openly made fun of him and laughed at him
That made me really angry because they never did that to me (they know where I'm from) but they did it to a man who they don't know just because he's black

What do Korean parents teach their kids about black people?
Where do they learn it's ok to disrespect people with darker skin?

Do Koreans associate themselves more with Europeans than Asians or Africans?

Sorry it's a little incoherent, this post

Arent you bit concious writing topic like this when you well know that "white African colonizer" brutally colonized "black Africans" and has plundered great resources from Africa.

As for Koreans associating with who and who. They dont give a fuc* because they are too busy studying, making money, taking shi* from their boss, and yada yada. Think about it. Do Americans or Canadians preoccupied themselves whether they associate with who and who?

Also, as opposed to white parents who painfully know, for lack of better word, unfortunate history between white and black, including, slavery, apartheid, colonization, etc., Korean parents are not so guilt ridden and may not be what you called, "racially sensitive."
It is the same reason why whites in America have easier time saying, "chink, gook, japs", etc. but when it comes to "N" words,,, woo boy,, ....

Lastly, do Koreans look down on Africans? Sadly, I would say yes. But, even more sadder, that perception is not limited to Koreans only.
Lets cut the shi*. It is about freaking time Africans themselves get their acts together, drive out the ruthless dictator, utilize plentiful natural resources, invest in education, and so on (this shi* applies to North Koreans too).

I'm sure it is nothing to do with our goverments arming
criminal despots with cheap weaponary that stops
ordinary Africans from rising up and getting rid of 'The Man'

One fine example is now residing in hell. Agustin Pinochet,
aided and abetted by various American and British goverments
to run riot in Chile. That wasn't the only South American dictator
who was a benificary of our aid though he was the most succesful.
The various Argentine regimes might have surpassed them if they
hadn't had been so stupid and ungrateful and bit the hand that
fed them.

His pals, Saddam Hussein and Margret Thatcher will be joining Pinochet soon in a dark musty cell and they can whinge to their hearts content
ad infinum.

Hollywood and rap music -- givin' the brothers a bad name since I don't know when.

not that there aren't positive portrayals in Hollywood and rap music, but what gets the lion's share -- buncha jigs runnin' around shootin' each other. It's what the kids in suburbs are buyin'.

I've seen Koreans disrespect other Asian nationalities. We had a student (2nd grade) who was half-Chinese, and the other students acted like she was a freak. Meanwhile, her younger sister (preschool) was adored by her classmates. So based upon that data point, it seem to pop up somewhere between age 5 and 8. Although I did have one kindergartner call Chinese "dirty". And I'm fairly sure her parents (whom I know) didn't teach her that.

My opinion, Koreans are ashamed of their past and want to distance themselves and hence look down apon societies which (unadmittingly) remind them of their past, including China and many other parts of Asia.

And yes Mark, horrible things happen in the past (and continue) however, many things including peoples' attitudes have changed greatly. I think the OP and the majority of the ESL community is a little suprised that Korea hasn't made a great deal of progress in that area, yet.

A lot of truth to that, although China has billionaires these days. Ironically, the Chinese love to check out North Korea (usually by boat) and laugh at the poor savages. The norks have pressured the Chinese not to discuss on the internet how bad the North korean situation is.

I've been told that dark skinned koreans are looked down on by the lighter-skinned ones.

I personally find the darker skinned women more attractive.

many koreans look down on anyone with darker skin than themselves. this includes other koreans, indians, bengaladeshis, filipinos, malays, blacks, et al.

they also tell me that they don't want to be exposed to sunlight because it makes their skin "black"

i know a korean girl who dates anyone except koreans and blacks. Question

When you say a Korean girl, do you mean under 18?

... who is not korean. that said, it's an asian phenomenon to want whiter skin. look at all asian soap operas across the board: any darkies in there? asian girls think it's ludicrous to sunbathe. western girls go to tanning salons. go figure.

As anyone who has been to the Dark Continent can surely attest to, Koreans do indeed share a lot of similarities with Africans.

Carrying babies wrapped in a towel on their backs, transporting pots and trays balancing then on their heads, shouting to one another during conversation while being in close proximity to one another, the grunting and spitting noises they make while walking around, urinating in public - I just figured that they had a recessive gene with all that pure blood, for I remember hearing how pure blood causes problems down the line with dalmations...

Best to keep the blood all mixed-up, folks, makes for prettier well-balanced people in the long run.

I actually find no problem with spitting in public, or unrinating if done fairly discreetly.

The most common description one hears about black people is "dirty". Bar none. That's from children and adults.

What worries me is that some malcontent, radical Islamic schmuck from the dark continent will get involved with some dumbass plot here on the peninsula and then the sh*t will truly hit the fan here for blacks.
