Hi,

Just caught the end of an MDC newscast, where it looked like an Irish teacher was caught with drugs. I don't speak Korean well, so I'm not sure what they said exactly; anyone (who speaks Korean) see it?

Saw it.

Yep. An Irish teacher. Working in a Seoul elementary school. My wife can't really tell me the name of the drug he was allegedly caught with. I assume it's been heavily Konglished.

It's going to happen from time to time. I'm not against drug use but I think it's dumb to do it in a country with such unenlightened perceptions of drug use.

Saw it too. It was pot my husband said. Couldn't understand it all myself. He's in big trouble. They also mentioned that this is a frequent occurence with foreign teachers, just for good measure at the end!

How much did they catch him with that he made the news? Distribution weight or posession?

Can't remember numbers but not much I think. Not distribution weight anyway. They intercepted a package at customs.

Nope, no name. You probably saw him hunched under a tweedy check jacket in the police station on the report. He was totally hidden. Feel sorry for him but not so smart if he knew that package was on its way.

I kind of feel sorry for the guy. But he has been here long enough to know the score.

Using drugs in Korea: Risky.
Importing drugs into Korea: Ballsy.
Getting said drugs sent to your elementary school: What can I say!!

He is going to be in hot water for what, 10 grams of hash?

Hope he got a chance to smoke it!

If he's guilty, what a moron. Getting drugs sent to Korea is a high-risk activity at the best of times, but getting them sent to your elementary school???

If you're going to get involved with extracurricular activities like this, DO NOT get a public school job where the government is always going to be keeping closer tabs on you than if you were in a hagwon, and where you are going to cause a lot more controversy when you get caught.

PS: OP, change the title and add 'drug bust'. The thread will get more attention.

Does anyone actually have a link to this story?

No surprise.....

One of my friends (an American DoD worker) was just convicted of possessing and using marajuana off base, though due to SOFA regulation, he is not allowed in court and he can have his conviction overturned in an American court.

No matter what the laws say in your home country regarding drugs, a good rule of thumb is not to do it anywhere it is deemed illegal.
Fortunately he was not caught in China nor Malaysia, he could have ended up in a grave....
