So I brought one of these after hear suggestions from a previous thread. When I was in Yongsan playing with the sample one they had, it did have a Korean-English Dictionary. But the one they gave me they told me it was a newer model and it is v43 with qtopia. Now I've been searching through it ENDLESSLY and I cannot find the dictionary in this version AS WELL the keyboard will only type Korean letters!
I downloaded the English manual from the website but cannot find any useful information so I was wondering anyone here would be kind enough to tell me where to find the dictionary and how to change the keyboard?

I also upgraded my V43 to the new Qtopia operating system. I haven't been able to figure out how to get the dictionary going either. I think the dictionary data needs to be downloaded from the website and installed seperately.

To type in English you need to press the little button on the right of the space bar. It should say 영.

The new Qtopia software seems to be a bit better than the old software but I am having some teething trouble with it. For example, I can't get it to show PDF, Excel and Word files yet. I know it can, and it does recognize them, but it just won't show them!!

I'm guessing there were a couple of software CD's in the box with the V43. The old operating system should be on one of those. Or you could download the old software from the i-station website.

If you're not confident about reformatting and installing the old software yourself then you could just go a an i-station service center where they will most likely do for free.

There are a few A/S centers around Seoul. I used the one at Gangnam Station a couple of times. You will probably need someone with good Korean skills to find the one near you on the website.

i live near Gangnam can you tell me where exactly?
i just wanted something hassle free I didn't realize when I brought it that this qtopia thing only had a 30 turn on limitation. It seems like it would be better if I used the old one.
everything is in Korean so I'm not very confident in doing anything myself.
Unless you want to teach me?
oh and the cd in the box doesn't do anything. it was really for nothing.
the korean manual i have is even a qtopia one.

Here's the map for the Gangnam a/s center. Go out of exit 7 and walk straight for about 700m. Look at the buildings on the right and you should see a sign for the service center. It's on the 6th floor.

So they only gave you the trial version of Qtopia? That was cheap of them. I had to pay 25,000 for my full version of Qtopia. If you just want the old software you will have to communicate that to the receptionist who doesn't speak any English. I just gave her my cellphone and had her talk to my Korean friend who translated.

If you can just get a little help from someone who reads Korean then you can simply download the old software from the i-station website, then re-format the V43, then install the old software. But the problem is that you need to register on the website to download software. You will need to type in your V43's serial number and stuff.

i-station's website
http://www.i-station.co.kr/index/

Or just got to the service center and have them do it all for you!!! Laughing

The i-Station website has a section (in Korean only) showing how to do this. You basically just have to reformat it.

The V43 is more like a little computer than an MP3 player. It uses different operating systems. Some, like Qtopia, you have to pay for.

The average Korean user of the V43 would just register on the website and download the full version of Qtopia which would cost 25,000. Or, they could choose to re-format and install the old software. Which is free and should be on one of the discs that came with the V43. I know I have it on a disc in my V43 box.

Check that CD again. When it loads, right-click the icon and choose explore. You're looking for something like V43 Firmware. That's your old software.

Or, just go to the A/S center and explain what you want. They will be happy to do it for you and it should take no longer than 30 minutes.

I understand your frustration. If it wasn't for my Korean wife helping me out with the website I'm sure I would have been frustrated too. I-station didn't really set up their product support for non-Korean speakers.

Stick with it. It'll be worth it.

I tried to warn you guys about iStation/Digital Cube practices, specifically as it relates to releasing beta products to the end user, using crap software components, and having terrible firmware support.

If you want to become a power-user and format your player to customise it with your own software line-up, feel free, but there is a learning curve there and it's not for everyone. For someone who wants to just use their devices out of the box, iStation players suck.

You have to go to their online store and buy the key for it.

I agree, it was ass of them to make it so that qtopia f*cked everything up once the trial period was over, while forgetting to mention that when they first offered it for download.

so I just got my co-teacher to call them and they said they will make an id for me right now so I can log into the website.
but then that means that I have to still buy a key correct?
why would they give me a qtopia version with no purpose?
i check the cd over again and theres nothing on it about the old system.
but i have to register this i-station anyone know what for?

The purpose is to give you a demo in the hopes you'll like it enough to buy a license for to use that software.

I also think it's crappy marketing to put out a product with a trial version of software on it. That's not what happened when I got my V43.

Remember, this thing is designed to be used in conjunction with the website. Everything you need for the V43 is on the website.

When you eventually get the thing how you like it then I hope you, like me, will begin to appreciate what a great little machine it is. I've had mine for almost a year and have had so much enjoyment and use from it. As a video player, MP3 player, GPS, and portable hard drive, it is fantastic.
