I wonder has anyone on here ever read this?
I'm posting in this forum because there are a lot of parallels between the fourth rate private schools in 1930s London and 21st century Korea. Now before anyone asks, overall I'm happy with my job and so are most of my friends but I know some who aren't-and the parallels are striking.
Most striking of all is that doing meaningful, enjoyable work is sacrificed so that children can impress their parents by reguritating a load of memorized rubbish. Also the meanness of Dorothy's (the main character's) boss-a proper tightarsed hag-I know some people here with bosses like that. 'She would rather save a penny than earn a pound.'-that one rang true as well.
Just interested to know if anyone else has ever read this book and noticed the same things! |
