I've just been asked to go for an interview at this place. Does anyone work there, or know of anything about the school? Any information would be handy.

Cheers

Christian school. Not far from the bus terminal in Cheon an. If you are going there it is probably best to go by bus and then take a taxi from the bus station. The train station is on the other side of town.

I believe they offer a four-year BA in 'cabin crew' that a few of my stewardess-wannabe high school students are desperate to get into.

I know someone who has been working there for a few years now and is quite happy (at last report...haven't talked to her in a while). I am also friends with a guy who just started there this semester and it's all good so far. Pretty typical uni stuff but overall pretty decent.

That's what I thought the first time a student handed me a uni interview introduction that finished 'My dream is to become a flight attendant I hope to make this dream come true at Honseo University'.

I've since learned that it's an extremely competitive and prestigious job over here.

I thought I saw them advertising recently for a winter camp. Just make sure you are not signing into a kids unigwon style outfit.

There are two separate programs there. An actual university with all the vacation time and everything else. And there is another language institute that also goes by the name of the university, but its not teaching university classes. So your answer might vary depending on which one it is. I just know the university one is good.

I've been on this campus.. I like it. Its a bit in the country.. but not all that far from the KTX either to make a quick trip into Seoul.

Seems like a really good gig in my opinion. I've visited my friend a few times on the campus. He's been there for years now and never once heard him say anything bad about it.

The pay is 27 mil + change, same as the ad claims. The overtime rate for 2006 (unlikely to change but miracles happen~) university classes 27.000 (17 weeks) auxiliary classes 30.000 (12 weeks) HiTESOL & TTP classes 50.000 but few ppl get more than 2 or 3 of these classes all term.

There are department classes for English majors, required freshmen classes (all students) and FLEC classes. The FLEC classes are the auxiliaries I mention above. The FLEC office does not hire foreigners to teach their classes, instead, they are taught as overtime by the universitys foreign professors. This is by choice and if you want to teach them, you should sign up early.

In the past 4 semesters Ive averaged 5 university overtime hours for 17 weeks, 4 FLEC hours at 30.000 for 12 weeks and about 300.000 from HiTESOL & TTP in the semesters I participated in those two programs. So you do the math. Theres one prof here who uses her overtime to go back the states every vacation.

Housing is about 12 pyong with one bedroom, bathroom with tub, kitchenette and living room. There is a terrace. All 15 apartments are the same size with same features. Some come with furniture, some do not. All have electric stove & fridge. All have different sizes of fridges. Luck of the draw There are 3 apts the uni uses as VIP guest apts. So sometimes folks are coming & going, but there has never been trouble over this.

All professors live at Asan campus. There are no housing stipends for those who choose to pay (all rents) and live off campus. There is the possibility of subletting your apt on campus to a graduate student to underwrite your rent in town. The average oil bill for heat is 168.000 for one tank fill up. In Jan & Feb you will need two tanks. Each apt has individual meters for electricity. There is only one tank for the whole building, and the fill up is split evenly between all apts. The university covers the costs for the VIP apts.

Asan campus is 12 km from Cheonan-si. The Asan campus is a 50 minute shuttle ride to the Cheonan campus. The uni runs a fleet of shuttle buses so theres one leaving every 10-15-20 minutes from 7:30 am to 10:30pm. The shuttle is 600 won and stops at Emart, Cheonan train station (no KTX at this one) and the bus terminal, before arriving at Cheonan campus. The reverse route stops at the same places, in reverse~! The bus schedule is posted on the web (students will help you find it if you need them to assist) The KTX station is at CheonanAsan which is about 10 minutes from the Asan campus. Its just a short 33minute ride to Seoul & will cost you 11,700 won one way.

5 professors work at Cheonan campus, and the rest work at Asan campus. If you want to improve your resume, you want to be at Cheonan campus because that is where the English Dept is & all English major classes are. Cheonan professors teach all levels up to & including graduate level.

The pay rates are the same for both campuses. There has been talk of a travel allowance for the Cheonan folks, but I've not seen it as yet, but who knows what the future brings ^-^
Vacation is from mid June to last of August & again from mid Dec to last of Feb.
There is the Gina E camps (both vacations) but as yet, not required

Well, its all a matter of perspective I guess.

The FLEC office doesnt' teach children, only university students. So, this is WAY better than a kiddie hogwan...

the pay is slightly above average to the uni rate (national average) plus the overtime rates are better than most uni.

I work at one of the other universities in that same city.

you'd be on the edge between Asan (shitty small city/town) and Cheon-an (mid-sized city).
The foreigners downtown (Asan) are alright. I've heard your uni is a bit religious.

If you want more give me a PM. One of the guys I worked with is there now. Another is going at the end of this semester.
