I have read a lot of the posts that are here and on the other boards. I feel much more up to the challenge of what to expect.

But I plan to go for June of 2007, it is almost January now.

Please tell me the first couple of steps..

Get passport...when should I apply for a job etc. I have a business degree will this limit the jobs I am able to attain?

Please help I am nervous! My purpose of teaching in Korea; besides getting out of Dodge for awhile is to earn enough in a couple of years to repay my student loans...Any advice?

Try out workandplay or some of the other recruiters who are recruiting for public school jobs. My logic is this: private jobs are almost universally last minute - trying to plan a hogwan job this far in advance is likely to be frustrating. Getting on with EPIK or GEPIK is more likely to feel sort of normal.

That said - you're going to a place where cost of living is relatively low and pay is relatively high. No matter what, your net to gross ratio is going to be way better here than in North America. Go with whatever feels good and in a couple of years your loans will be gone (I went to a hogwan my first trip here and got rid of 20k in student loans in a little over a year).

No problem with the business degree, although you might notice shady business practices of hagwons quicker than the next guy.

Public school jobs starting in August hire through decent recruiters (oxymoron?) from March to May, then last minute in August when people are backing out of their contracts. I know hagwon workers who found a job online, signed a contract 2 weeks later, then were teaching in Korea two weeks after that.

Good advice, kimchi story.
