|
|
my hagwon extended my visa to the 28th of february. the date feburary 28th was written on the back by immi. the last day of my contract is the 28th of february but i am expected to work that day. i was under the impression that you have to leave the country on the last day of the arc (the 28th) meaning that i would not actually be able to work on the 28th as i would have to leave on that day.
can anyone tell me if i am right in my belief that i have to leave the country on the 28th, not work that day? |

If your contract lasts until the 28th, then technically you have to work if your boss expects you to. You can take your plane ticket to immigration and ask them to extend your ARC for a few more days. |

Probably you should get a ticket for post 28th, then go to immigration to get another extension of stay. They will typically give you up to about 3 weeks of extra staying time on presentation of a purchased exit ticket. |

am i right in thinking that my hagwon made a mistake asking my visa to be extended until the 28th when they should have extended the visa to the next day, the 1st of march, allowing to me leave the day after my contract finished? |

Your hagwon didn't make a mistake. They stated the end date of the contract, and immigratiom complied with the given date. When my teachers stay on for extra time at our hagwon, we typically write on the contract that the end date is a week after we need them so this complication doesn't arrise. The other posters are correct about the plane ticket and extension. |

I dont have a plane ticket. I'm going to do the visa run to fukuoka, as i have a new position starting march 1st. will a ticket for the ferry take the place of a plane ticket in this case? also, i posted in the travel thread already but can anyone tell me if the korean consulate in fukuoka is closed march 1st because of a public holiday? Japan doesnt have a public holiday on march 1st but as korea does will their consulate in japan be closed that day? |

you have to leave by the END of the day on your ARC. HOWEVER, just go to Immigration with a plane/ferry ticket in hand and ask to stay longer. They will extend up to 30 days for free.
The extension your boss did was extend the VISA, and cost him some money to do so. The extension you want is different. |

Its going to be funny today when I tell my boss i need time off to go to immigration to get more time to in order to work on the last day (which i only have two teaching hours on anyway). You'd think they'd just let me take the last day off!
Does anyone yet have any info if the Consulate in Fukuoka is open on March 1st, a public holiday in Korea, but not in Japan? I emailed the consulate but I don't know how long they will take to reply... |

Once your visa expires you have 14 days to leave Korea on the 15th day you must leave. Just because it is a public holiday in Korea it doesn't mean Japan will be on shut down. Please have or gain some logic. You will have to wait two full days for your visa to be processed.

sorry bud but that is NOT what i've been reading (check the grace period thread) for that one. if you are right then fair play but from all i've read on dave's so far the information you just gave is incorrect. as far as i know and people have said on dave's you must leave on that last date on the ARC, and not one day after. |

From my experience bud this is not the case. I went to immi to have my visa cancelled (after 4 months) which they did. I was told that in 15 days i had to leave. On the 15th day i headed for Osaka to obtain my new visa. All was smooth and no probs at all. Remember they will need two full days to process your visa.

i think our situations are different. you went to get your visa cancelled. i'm looking for an extension of my stay in korea after the expiration date of my visa. it sounds like you got an exit order, which does grant you 14 days to leave korea. |

Soory chief for misleading you it was not my intention. It was indeed a exit order. Good luck.

I have had trouble before when leaving on the last day of my contract. So from then on, I have made sure that I have an extension.
Just do the same, get them to extend even if it is only a couple of days. It just takes 1 stamp and 2 secs of writing.
You may have to pay, you may not, but it saves any confusion and future trouble when you meet that one individual who doesn't seem to understand why you are leaving on the last day of your visa and not a day before your visa ends. |
