I think there are only 3 options in Seoul,

1) Stay in your apartment

2) Go to a club or bar near your home.

3) Go to a bar or club in a clubbing area like Itaewon or Hondae and don't expect to go home 'til dawn. Judging the transportation situation last night 12/24, it will be hard to get a taxi and / or you'll be in sardine-like packed buses.

Are there any other options?

Yeah. You're only limited by your own imagination if you're single. I've been hiking up in the mountains on New Year's Day. It felt great to start of the year on that foot.

This year, we'll probably visit our friends and get drunk while our kid plays with theirs.

An excellent idea, but isn't it a bit cold for hiking in Korea, this time of year?

As long as there aren't any barnyard animals or corpses involved...

I'll be in North Carolina with my sister and her husband. They aren't hard partyers, so I'm not sure what's in store. Maybe a party.

If I were in Seoul, I guess I could think of a couple more options--

-Throw a house party
-Drive out to the East Sea to watch the first sunrise of the year (a popular and romantic choice among Koreans.)

The worst New Year's Eve was spent lying on a couch at my in-law's, watching a Law and Order marathon.

The best was on a beach in Goa, my toes in the foam of the Arabian Sea, among a thousand revellers, setting off fireworks and wishing strangers a Happy New Year.

Dinner and a movie with my wife. No Dick Clark/Ryan Seacrest. No getting pissed. No hike on New Year's Day, too lazy for that shit.

I might go to Homigot Park here in Pohang and watch the sun rise. I guess it's the first place on the Korean mainland to see the sunrise.

Or I might be significantly less cool and just watch movies with my cat.

Yesterday and today were a balmy 10-15 degrees (13 degrees right now at 4PM (55F)). Can't get much better than that for hiking.
