I'm seeing that a person might sign onboard with one of these schools at almost any time during the school year so I was wondering is there's an issue with teachers catching on to where the students are in their studies.

How does a teacher know what the students have studied and what they haven't studied or what they need to study. Is that something that your told by the directors/staff of the school itself?

Or is it not as big a factor in your job responsibilities(perhaps depending on what level you're teaching at?) as I'm thinking it might be?

Thanks,
Art

You'll be going into any new class not really knowing what the students' level is. I think most people choose activities for the first day that help them figure out how well the students can speak.

It's better to under-estimate your students' ability than to over-estimate it when you start a new class. You can always praise them for how well they speak. If you over-estimate it, the lesson will collapse because it's too difficult and then you're stuck with a room full of frustrated students.

Many (most?) hakwons have a program of some kind. Get the textbooks from the director, ask where to start, and review any past lessons the kids have already studied so you know what they are supposed to have learned. (A pop quiz on the second day will tell you if they really learned it.)
