Hi

Is anybody going to the end of year teacher's meeting in Suwon next week? I think it is the 27-28th of December.

I laughed and said, "no thanks, won't be going there".

I said something similar, but was told attendance was "strongly advised" by the Ed office.

If I don't go I have to submit reasons why not .

YES!

I am going there. I tried to get out of it, but my principal insisted on it.

I'm anticipating that in true K style, it will be a bit pompous with too much waffling on and back patting etc (just like the 'model' classes we have to see at other schools.) Rolling Eyes

Trying to make lemonade outta lemons, I guess could be seen as a possibility to meet new people and get out in Suwon for good food and drink in the evenings... Smile

....aaaaand - I guess might learn something that will make me a better teacher. It's possible I guess. Not that I mean I'm the best teacher in the world, just a bit dubious about being taught anything by koreans...

I'm hoping I'll be proved wrong on that score though.

Tee hee, anyone who posts on this thread - we could all try and figure out who each others on-line persona's are. That'll be a crack...

Cut me some stick here, just kidding about that (perhaps...)

Cool

I declined. I said that I wasn't given enough notice. And I'm just not interested. My school didn't make a big deal about it.

They'd have to bring me back from the beach for that one. Not gonna happen.

I was wondering the same thing.

I am all for professional development however after the condescension and lack of respect shown towards the foreigners at the open classes I have attended, I have decided not to go.

I was just told what it includes and the phrase "teaching your grandma to suck eggs" springs to mind.

I'm not going. But those who do go please raise the matter of that form about drug use that they are insisting all their teachers sign.

I told them I'm leaving in 2 months and having almost completed 3 public school contracts if I didn't know how to teach or Korean culture by now then a workshop surely wasn't going to help them.

I can't go: I was told about it the same day they needed to know if I was going. Typical Korean style: Last minute for everything. I would love to get out of my school for two days, especially during the last week, but I have a dog and they didn't give me any notice. So, no I am not going.

On the survey thing we filled out a few months ago, I said more professional development and networking is needed. Now, all they have to do is get their acts together and start planning properly. Maybe next year, we'll get more notice.

I'm going. I can't complain about the lack of training and professional development and then turn it down when its offered. I'm going to try to be open-minded, but like Venus, I'm skeptical about it.

ilovebdt: What do you know about it? I haven't really been given any information other than the time.

i have never used any illegal drugs in my life, but what form are you talking about?

my school asked me to go, they told me i needed to answer by the next day, i was actually going to go, to make them happy, but forgot to answer. so the day after, i told them, and they said it was too late. they didnt seem to care. i think they know these meetings are BS.

If it is run by Kim Jongtae, it will be a bunch of waste of time, that guy is a poor excuse for a homo-sapian. or is it homo-sapien. either way, i hate him. the moron had two months to prepare for our contract extension, and still wasnt prepared. when we came to suwon, he was asking us for the forms that he was supposed to provide. somehow it took 4 hours to get a form, ask how long we have been working and if we had a TESL, and hand us a contract. he didnt even have to sign it. and i was one of the people in a hurry, since my mom had come for a visit.

anyways, everything involving him is messed up. can you tell i am still frustrated by him?
