I just got the Sky IM-7200 handphone for my birthday and I really love it, however, I can't figure out how to get MP3's onto the phone.
I have the MP3 files already, I just can't get them onto my phone. Has anyone out there bought this phone and been successful in transferring files? |

This is an update to the previous post.
I contacted SK with the help of my Korean wife and aparently, to transfer the files, you need some software and drivers BUT they are all in Korean. Now, that is all fine and dandy if you have a Korean operating system on your computer and if you can understand enough Korean to navigate the program. I could figure out the language aspects fine enough, however, my operating system is in English so the software will not run properly on my system. For older phones, they rectified this problem by releasing English versions of the software, drivers, and even the instruction manuals, however, they will not be doing the same for this phone series.
I am pretty pissed about the fact that I can't even use my phone for the function that excited me most about buying this phone, namely, being able to listen to MP3's. We asked them when we bought the phone if all of the functions could be accessed and used in English and they assured us that they could.
I feel tricked and cheated and I recommend to anyone out there who is thinking of buying a Sky phone to reconsider and buy another brand. I am even thinking of selling this phone and buying a phone from KT rather than SK; I am that embittered over this fiasco. |

Really old thread I know but...
I got the Data Manager from SKY and it's not obvious to me how to get the mp3s from the hdd to the phone. I wish it would be so easy that it would just show up as an external drive and a folder named mp3. Anyways anyone had luck with getting mp3s to your sky phone? How? Thanks. |

I haven't had that phone for a while now. It only lasted a year. Without even being dropped or anything, the screen crapped out just a little after the warranty had expired. They wanted 300,000 won to fix it, so I got a new phone instead.
The IM7200 is not a true MP3 phone, contrary to what Sky would have you believe. There is no way to put actual mp3 files onto the player from your computer. All you can do it purchase music from whatever internet pack your phone has. The files you will purchase are in a proprietary filetype (not mp3 either), and can only be played on your phone. The manager will help you backup those files to your computer, if you so choose, and then allow you to restore them on your phone later.
I will never buy a Sky phone again. I was an early adopter at a cost of 620,000 won and justified the purchase because it was an "mp3 phone" and would last for several years. I was incorrect in both justifications. |

I have a Sky phone and installed the software onto my wife's computer.
I couldn't get the MP3s to upload; just got an error message relating to the format. What I think is happening is that you're limited to loading MP3s that are locked by some kind of proprietary Digital Rights Management (DRM) system. This would restrict you to only loading MP3s via some paid system such as Melon. I couldn't even load up public-domain news podcasts. That's why I'll never buy an iPod or a Zune - nobody's gonna tell me what and how I can load onto my player.
In my opinion you'd be better off with some kind of generic MP3 player that allows you total freedom. Yes, it's a hassle to carry a separate player around, I know. I got a nice WiFi PDA from Dell, and it's great - podcasts and movies install fine via Windows Media Player, so I've got my podcasts, scheduling, movies, games, e-books, pictures and Internet and e-mail all in one handy package. |
