My friend and I were recently talking about a big hole in the incident. Basically, what the hell was security doing after the first shooting?

You'd think if two people were shot, they'd yellow tape and close the building as well as have cops at all enterances to the school campus.

And how about word of mouth? Sounds unbelieveable to me that students taking classes after the first shooting didn't hear about it. Shocking news like that usually travels at the speed of light.

Almost sounds like the campus police were too busy having their morning coffee to care.

Anyone know the details of the security response?

Sounds like you have it all figured out and have passed judgment already, Dev.

Read the campus police's -- they are not "security," by the way -- blotter and spoke with the duty officers, have you...?

I think campus security is pretty limited in what they can or can't do without the help of the city police. I do agree with the fact that the response needs to be questioned, but yet I doubt all the facts are out yet as it's only been like two weeks since it happened.

My guess is many other colleges and universities are scrambling to update and test their response to incidents like this in the aftermath of the tragedy.

Continue to use the word "security" all you like if it makes you feel better. But it also advertises that you have no grasp of actual ground conditions at Virginia.

Like many universities, Virginia Tech features an actual and fully-functional, independent police department. Sworn officers, sergeants, detectives, lieutenants, and a chief staff it.

Just the facts, 'mam. This discussion, particularly one that sets out to blame the campus police, ought to aim for precision, accuracy, and "just the facts" before it indicts, convicts, or whatever it is that OP has in mind...

Pusanweb's psycho gun nut, tinfoil hat wearing anti-semite shares this sentiment.
In fact, he brought this story to our attention:

There are dozens of holes in this shoddily written piece of twaddle. Yet, I thought I'd beat him to the punch.

Gopher,

I don't have an exact idea what their campus police is like (which is what I was referring to when I said security), but I can guess. The college I went to also had sworn officers, although I never had any reason to interact with them.

My point was I agree that we shouldn't rush to judgement until all the facts are out.

By the way Gopher, you might want to get your facts straight. I'm not the one who sent threatening pm's to someone and then went and cried to the mods about someone's avatar. Maybe you should pick your buddies a little more carefully. Especially one that refers to Korean women as "kimchi queens."

Whatever your issue with him is -- and you may certainly have one, Milwaukiedave -- your avatar and sig lines scream "bitter obsession."

In any case, you may want to consider moving on to bigger and better things.

I'm just a bit curious as to how this thread didn't manage to get thrown in with the "Gunman Kills 29 at Virginia Tech" thread that has 449 replies.

my guess would be that the mods have gone back into hibernation after poking their heads up in the days immediately after the shooting
