I tried to find a prievious thread that mentions the name of the cord you can use to connect your laptop to a tv.... so that you can view dvds on the tv. If someone could tell me the name of that cord, that would be great.
Thanks! |

A couple of things you need to check on the laptop (before I head off to Costco) :
Does your notebook have a :
VGA/Component output port? You need a VGA-VGA, VGA-S-Video, VGA-DVI or VGA-composite cable (basically a VGA-whatever your TV takes to watch video)
DVI/HDMI outport port? There are only a couple of notebooks out there that supports HDMI outputs so I'm guessing yours is not one of them. You'll need a DVI-(whatever inputs your TV accepts) cable.
S-Video output port? This looks like a PS2 port but for video. You'll need an S-video-(whatever inputs your TV accepts) cable.
You'll need to configure your second monitor/TV in display proerties of Windows to watch your DVDs.
Hope that helps! |

| Thanks Rocklee. I was hoping it would be simpler than that...but not much relating to compters ever seems simple to me. |

most notebooks have s-video out, and most newer tvs/vcrs have s-video in. u can see pictures of it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-Video
if your notebook doesn't have that, it probably has composite video out (rca cable, usually yellow): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Composite_video
there are other possibilities, but these are by far the two most common setups. |

Thanks, thebum....
I'll take pictures of my laptop and tv connection set-up and see whether a tv/computer shop can set me up with the right cable(s). |

| Thebum is spot on here. Go to any computer shop and ask for an S-Video cable. They are everywhere; if you look at the pictures in the link provided by the bum, you won't even have to ask. I paid a pittance for a 10m cable. |
