Hello and Happy New Year my friends,
I've been offered a job which sounds alright and was just interested what the old hacks on the board had to say about it.
It is at a private elementary school
2.6 million won/month
24 teaching hours a week
NO HOUSING
Vacation: 10 weeks paid vacation during the summer and winter
500,000 won for travel expenses
Severance bonus
50% Insurance and pension
It seems ok but I just would like some second opinions.
Thanks |

Q1: Where?
Q2: Do you have a couple million won for key deposit? |

Sounds good, as long as it doesn't require those office hours of sitting around for hours a day doing nothing it sounds like great conditions.
If you don't have key money for your own place yet just live in a hasookjip or a goshiwon for a few months to save up 5 million or so.
Good luck. |

If you pay 300,000 a month for rent, you can get a mediocre place in most locations that are not Kangnam or most other places in Seoul. If it is in Seoul, expect to pay more.
Therefore, if its not in Seoul, its like getting 2.3 per month. Are there fewer than 5 employees (in other words, what about the pension? If there are more than 5, you are legally required to get another 1000$ or so from the employer in pension payments if you are from the USA) so you cant get pension? 500,000 isnt alot for travel. Are you already in Korea? Will they pay for a visa run to Osaka, too? I reckon we need more information to make a valid judgement for ya, op. |

Also, if you're still in your home country, ask if they can/will help you find housing. It's tough enough to find when you HAVE been here for a while! |
