Why is this a problem?
Do the two policies contradict?
If so why?
(South Africa is a case in point of post regime change conciliatory policy)

There would be a contradiction if and only if...
A. Ban had opposed a Sunshine-style policy of engagement with Saddam-era Iraq, and advocated going to war instead, or...
B. ...if, following a future overthrow of KJI, Ban were to use the UN as a bully pulpit to oppose Kim's execution. |

.......
No you don't get it.
Ban Ki moon proposes sunshine with North Korea, turning ablind eye to the suffering, murder, concentration camps of the North.
Yet 2 people who dodeserve to die will be killed in accordance with a justice system and then he throws a stink.
Concentrations camps, fine. Executing mass murderers? bad.
BAH! give me a break. |

Even that makes no sense. The UN has never come out and try to intervene on anyones particular behalf in any nations that do execute people.
When Timothy Mcveigh was executed there was no UN envoy begging us to spare him.
But now some of the worst tyrants in history are on their way to the gallows and they care? |

Yes, but it is a convenant of the UN and the Secretary General is suppose to believe in the UN. |

Belief is for religion.
The UN is a mostly powerless, political body, subject to change by decisions of committees and voting in a quasi-democratic fashion.
