|
|
I am enrolled in some college courses now to refresh some skills I lost in the "working world"....
I went to see the vet counsellor at a local community college and he said that any vet who made CT their residence for at least 12 months (or at least has CT as their home of record) can enroll at any state-ran college and university FOR FREE!!!!!
So the only thing I have to pay for are my books and fees, which aren't so much.....
If I knew about this sooner, I would've fought being inducted....
I guess Joe and Rell did something right...for a change

Not only that....but the reservists serving in Korea and Japan can also take part in the Reserve SLRP program all the way up to the PhD level now. |

I'm confused.....you fought????.....yet....the last I heard....no one has been forced to join the military.....it's voluntary.....been that way since the very early 70's.
Unless you fought being inducted into something else.... |

Jinja!
I am from Niantic and my military family has never mentioned that. I will have to pass on the word to my uncles and cousins.
Where in CT are you from?

Under Presidential orders given right after 9/11 and now being sped up after the sudden downward spiral in Iraq;
The President has the right to call up anyone in the IRR or anyone who had time remaining on their previous contracts.
And just recently, they just amended the rule to say that IRR and reservists can be called to active duty pass the before 24-month activation period for duty in Iraq and "the stan"
I was away teaching in Korea for the past 6 years and I was notified about being called back in last August (see my previous threads) and I was sworn-in in October.
I have drill this weekend and I will find out if my unit was selected as part of that massive "troop surge" he mentioned almost 2 weeks ago (I'll post it on a seperate thread)

Anyway.....

I am in New Haven now and I was told that the veteran tuition waiver applies for people who served 36 months on active duty during times of "national emergency".....
The only event that occurred during my time in the Army was when the US conducted those airstrikes on Serbia to help "liberate" Kosovo back in 1999 and the terrorist bombings in Kenya and Tanzania...
But hey, I'm not complaining....
Actually, when I went to the payment windows and gave them a copy of my DD214, he didn't even look at the dates on it and he just said that when I register next time, just mention I am a veteran....groovy~! |
