Usually I don't mind the clinics. Today it was busy though. I felt pretty self-conscious trying to communicate, even just sitting and waiting. They took my blood pressure. It was really high. I think part of it may have been feeling a bit mortified in there. It's just awkward. I try to go in when it's as empty as can be, but today was not like that. I got the usual reaction (uh oh a foreigner), giggles etc... got it again a bit later at the pharmacy, but that's no problem. I think clinics can be great, but today was trying for me, I was so relieved to get out of there. I think I understand why I often procrastinate on going to clinics or getting haircuts (which I also did today, no problem there). I've been in Korea a long time but my Korean ability is still poor and I get self-conscious when I need to use some. The doctor spoke a little English.

Anyone else struggle with this and want to just avoid such situations?

I just went to a cheap one "Blue Club" for 5000 won. If you know pretty much zero Korean you can point to a picture or show one of yourself, or say 'short cut' or use body language or whatever.... it may not turn out quite the way you want it though. Mine's not bad, still would like more offf the top, but what the hell, I just want to get these things done and be on my way...
