Take the subway to Gongdeok station. It's at the intersection of line 5 and line 6. Go out exit 6. Immediately on the right, you will see two buildings. Both are about the same height, both have green windows. Neither have the name of the building in English. One has square corners, one has curved corners. Go to the 3rd floor of the one with curved corners. In English, it's the Renaissance Building. An English speaking and VERY helpful clerk will immediately recognize you as a foreigner and wave you to her booth. You'll need your passport, resident card, bank statement/bank book, and one way ticket departing in less than a month. She didn't specify one way, but I bought one way to be safe. Surely if you buy a two way ticket, they will assume you have another job waiting for you. You'll also need your home address and phone number and social security number. You don't need your Korean address or the address/phone number of your school. Your employer doesn't have to report anything. The deadline for the school to make the pension payments is the 10th. The pension office will wait for the last payment, then deposit the money into your Korean or home country account 5 days later. Sorry, no cash. She gave me her business card with phone number, fax number, and email address in case there are any problems. The whole process took about 10 minutes. You can bet I'm going to send this lady an email thanking her for being so helpful to a foreigner. According to this clerk, ANY PENSION FUND OFFICE CAN PROCESS YOUR CLAIM. Obviously, I recommend this one. |

Thanks MESL, that is great info. I remember a few months back someone mentioning that you could have pension deposited in your Korean bank account before you "leave", but providing that detailed info is a great service to all. |

Only 5 days? Pretty fast indeed. I guess you don't really need to leave, just have the ticket ready... |
