Hi everyone,
Just would like to say first thanks for the info you provided me regarding china, just one last issue
The issue i have is cloths, at the moment i believe I have the cloths needed for Beijing and Xian i.e. 0c or a little under. However I hope to be heading up to Harbin in northern china, this is obviously a different type of cold! BBC Weather has the temp at at least -10 in the day to -20 at night
1) How do i handle this cold in regards to extra cloths I should buy, at the moment I will be buying a big jacket, better gloves and head wear in Beijing
2) Regarding shoes, at the moment i have a pair of runners and a pair of leather dress shoes (the funky looking ones with square caps). This seems to be my biggest worry as while i know i will be fine in Beijing as i have worn these shoes in Seoul in temp of around 0ish, i am VERY worried about Harbin.
Even with nice and thick socks should i buy a new pair of 'boot like' shoes for the days i am in Harbin or would the difference be negotiable.
Regarding this issue,
1) I don't see my self treading through snowbanks,
2) i will only be in Harbin for 2 days
3) Because of this i'm loath to spend a lot of money on a pair of boots, would a cheap pair do the same job for 2 days of coldness?
My gut feeling is the difference would be negotiable if i bought boot style shoes, that is, i will be cold in what ever shoe im in.
Pretty much would like your opinion on this issue,
Also where would you recommend I look for boots for wide feet in Seoul?

| Unless you're spending vast amounts of time outside, I'd think that your regular shoes with some warm (wool or synthetic thermal) socks would be fine, even in the colder weather. If it's wet/slushy out, plastic bags over your socks will help keep your feet dry. If you're really worried about it, it might be worth it to buy the boots just to put yourself at ease. If I were in your shoes (hahah, pun not intended), I'd just bring a few extra pairs of warm socks. You can get decent thermal socks at Lottemart, Homeplus, Emart, etc. for under W10,000. |

As for clothes . . .
I've never been to China, but I've spent a great deal of time in cold weather. It's best to wear layers. Thermal underwear is good. The big shopping centers should have it. Check the hiking gear section. |

Harbin is a tourist place, they will have plenty of clothes (much cheaper than Korea, because the locals have to buy them, too) that you can buy and they will be suitable for the weather, too.
p.s. sorry for pointing out the error, I really wish I could help it. No offence |
