This is for anyone who was in the country around 1996.

My uncle was teaching in Korea for 1996. He was in Yochon, a small town that has since been absorbed by Yeosu. His name was Barry, and he was short and a heavy drinker.

For one weekend we stayed in Seoul in a basement apartment with a Serbian couple. The dad was Serbian, the mom was Bosnian-Muslim, and the daughter was the ultimate symbol of racial rebellion. Her name was Seina and she was really funny.

This is my uncle holding the dog:

When I came here to visit with my sister and my two cousins, we bemusedly posed for this ad photo (yes I had long hair back then):

I want to know if anyone remembers any of the people I've mentioned here. It's a long shot but I'm assuming the ESL community was tighter back then. My uncle might be coming to visit this summer.

Good luck with this. Turns out was in the country then, but nowhere near Yeosu ...

Methinks there's a halfway interesting story buried under this OP ... again, good luck in your efforts.

Half interesting is right. I was here for three weeks in 1996 when I was 16 years old, and when I went back to Edmonton I annoyed all my friends talking about Korea. My uncle didn't make it to the end of his contract because he had a heart attack and left around his tenth month.
