Has anybody had luck setting up Linux and DSL connection. My main prob is getting connection information like server ips and names.
Any hints or help.
I am hoping to use gentoo and megapass-lite.

I would also like to know if anyone has had any luck in this regards.
The it appears that Debian cannot autoconfigure the network with DHCP through the installer. |

Most modern (gentoo, redhat, etc) distros turn on DHCP automatically for installs and later on whenever you boot up. And its been like that for quite a few years now.
I do not see the problem to get all the info (dns, router, netmask) by using DHCP.
If you are using a network router (firewall) and not connecting the machine naked on the net, then make sure you enabled DHCP on it.
It always worked - provide some more info.... |

In my case, the computer connects directly to the internet through an ethernet cable. I presume that there is a hub in the officetel somewhere, as it is a new building.
I have been able to manually configure the connection in windows, so it seems unusual that I've not been able to do the same through the Debian installer.
I'll keep at it I guess.... Just wanted to make sure it was possible. |

All newer *nix flavors will automatically detect the connection and get the info from your ISP, unless in your installtion you added manual settings. |
