|

I've read so many postings...if you get here and don't like/not what you expected/etc....you can just go out and find another job. How exactly do I do that? I'm in Korea for the first time. I know nothing about the streets or where a hagwon/public school is. Do I just walk up and down the street hoping to see a neon sign "NEED TEACHER TODAY"?
When I get there, I will be in Hongseong. If I don't like it, should I go back to Seoul and pound the pavement? Call somebody? Who would I call?
I know this question has probably already been asked several times but I didn't know how to word it for a search. |

I think what you do is
1) get a subway map and a good country map (try a bookstore)
2) get on the internet and look at job ads.
When one interests you, contact them by e-mail just as you normally would, but also get on the phone and talk to them (if they provide a phone number).
3) Get directions and go visit.
One problem: Most jobs now go through a recruiter. If you go this route, ask the recruiter for directions to the school. Some recruiters may be leary about this because some people try to cut out the recruiter.
Either way, you get to meet the people face to face, see the workplace, check out the housing... These are all good things. |

If arrived on an E-2 visa, it is more difficult; a whole set of different rules. And, if the employer paid for your airfare there with the expectation of sending you to Japan for the visa, then I would think you would/should pay the airfare back. |
