Do I need to get a special international atm card to get money from a machine or can I just use my card from here in the states? I never had a problem in Europe or even Morocco, but I thought things might be different in Asia becaue I've seen so many people mention international cards. What's up with that?

You need an international one that says Mastro or Cerrius or visa on it. They usually have an embedded microchip thingy in it as well. You won't be able to simply use your domestic atm card anywhere outside of Korea.

My first week I used my TD Bank (Canadian) at an ATM machine at Seoul Station with out any problems. It doesn't have an embedded chip, and it is not an international card.

My cash card has a Cirrus and a Maestro logo and a chip, so I assume I can use it abroad. But it's still crap cos it has neither an expiry date, nor a security code, so no chance of using it online.

It's for a local bank, but its a Visa debit card. Does that count? As far as a microchip is concerned...??? I have no idea. Guess I should ask the bank.

If it has "international" printed on it things will be clear. I have three that do.
